Have a chance to buy some gently used Thorley Headers that came off a 455. Will they fit on a 403? If not, is the problem something that can be fixed with some fabrication or movement of something else?

If you can't use them, please have the seller email me off list - I'll take a set for my PB rehab if the price is right.

The way I understand it, Thorley Headers were designed using a 403 equiped motorhome as a test bed. Dougs Headers were designed on a 455.

But... either will work on the other.

(Just how I understand it... it might even be true!)

Mike,

Your comment fired a brain cell

IIRC while the Thorley's for a 403 will fit a 455 the exhaust ports on a 403 are smaller and therefore the flange is smaller.

Rob: the 403 and the 455 MH and Toro share the same stock left exhaust manifold, the stock 403 right manifold has a kink above the oil filter cooler adapter cause the 403 is a small block and is shorter. They both have the same bolt pattern and use the same gasket. The older Thorleys were made for both till Joe and Doug got together and designed a set with thicker flanges to reduce warpage supposiedly for 455 MH but would fit both as I understand it.

Chuck,
Now, both are almost a spiting imiage of each other, Late2012.
We stock both.
The most visaable is in the collector bung. Doug's use the perment steel
bung, thorly uses the traditional fiberous bung.
We were asked by both to show them where they should locate the O2 sensor
bung. My guys had a big laugh when they sent us identical headers for us to
mark.

Jim,

So as of late 2012 the port sizes in Doug Thorley headers and Doug's headers are the same?

Rob M.
