Last week I posted about my steering and handling not staying consistent. Believe I tracked it down to a broken shock mount on the lower front left. Possibly maybe someone jacking up on that stud one time? Has there ever been any record of Bilstein shocks sticking or hanging up and braking off the stud. I pushed on the shock and it goes in and out. I guess maybe when it could find it's way to the top of the a-arm it would work till it fell off.
Any thoughts out there, On bilstein shocks in general and if the lower shock mount is a known weak point.
Thanks in advance

I do not think the Bilstein cause the broken mount any more than any other brand. I have seen several GMCs where the front lower shock mounts have been re-welded.

It has been my experience with both Delco and Bilstein shocks that they
break the upper eye of the shock. I also find a lot of broken lower front
shock mounts. Does not seem to matter much what brand of shocks in my
experience.

Skip,
Broken shock studs can be caused by many things. One I have seen on cores
that I rebuild is bad bushings. Once those bushings wear or compress
through to the steel, every bump starts to stress those mounts. Once a
shock dies and starts bottoming out, it really beats up those studs. I've
also seen a lot of realy hokey fixes that I'd never trust so do it right.
I had at least one pictorial on this fix on GMCWS and it should help.

Mike,

That's the one!

The repair for the shock bolt is on page 46/66.

Manny came up with a mod to the bolt for the air suspension system he built for JimB.

It was on the Daily Pose awhile back and I have no idea when.

Either it is not "done" (you need to wait some more), or you do not have a PDF reader plugin working in your web browser. Most Windows people use Adobe Acrobat Reader, I don't know what Linux and Apple users would use.
If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader, but it is not working in your web browser, you can right-click and save it to your computer, then open it after it finishes downloading (if you have a PDF reader installed).

Yes. I was unable to find any pics of shock stud repair and I remember
updating that a few years ago when I started successful repair work on
those.

Yes. I was unable to find any pics of shock stud repair and I remember
updating that a few years ago when I started successful repair work on
those.

Negative Dennis. That's just a couple of photos of the brace
reinforcement. The photos of the actual repair process are not there and I
do not know how to add them.

Steve,

The easiest way would be to send the updated presentation to whoever runs the website and they can replace the existing one with the
revised version.

I would suggest the revised version be annotated with R1 - Date: XX-XX-XXXX for easy reference.

Regards,
Rob M.
