No problem if you have the Dometic or similar Thermostat that automatically
kicks in the propane furnace if the outside temperature drops too low (I
believe it's below 30-32 degrees F). There's also a manual setting to run
off the furnace.

John,
I have not experienced a Colman heat pump.
Down to what temp. will your unit put out heat?
My Carrier does nothing worthwhile once the ambient temp hits 40.

Even a water-based heat-pump won't do much
if that water gets below 40 F!

That's the way MOST marine air conditioning
systems work and you need to add some sort
of electrical or LP gas heating when you
get to that point.

An electric blanket of a good mummy type of
sleeping bag (or a warm significant other)
will be very helpful if you get down below
freezing!

And don't think it is safe to just light the
cooking stove or oven to heat your coach! It
isn't safe and the moisture it will add to
the inside of the coach will be huge!

Yeah, 40 F is generally considered to be the bottom for even land-based heat pumps. All my units are set to kick in supplemental heat at that point.

Thanks to the EPA most exotic fluorocarbons that would offer atmospheric heat extraction below 30 degrees are banned.
