What RC said. They felt they needed something with more room and more power for the extended length trips they are planning. I personally hate to see them give the GMC up, but I do understand their reasoning.

Whenever I hear lack of power, I realize that they never looked around to
see that others have sufficient power

That's true Jim. I suspect they have a tuning/distributor/carburetor problem that can be corrected fairly easily and economically. I certainly don't have a power problem with my stock engine and 3.70 final drive.

Well, folks, I get that. I am starting to look at pushers too. The Safari's are at really good prices right now...
Lots of 96-99's in the $20-30K range.
Metal body, one piece roof, a lot of the features that make the GMC so long lasting.
A few GMCer's here have moved to them and love 'em.

We certainly have zero lack of power in our GMC. Often I pass pushers going up the grades, while not running below 5 inches on the vacuum. We rarely go anywhere without towing a car. All in how one sets the GMC up. Hey, when we blew the two engines, I still had power. One had a busted piston and the other a loose rod.
What Gene stated above is why we did not buy a pusher, at least one of the big reasons. I would have had to pay for maintenance. My aunt and uncle paid 400.00 for an oil change on their pusher. We took factory tours before making our purchase of the old GMC. We can park the GMC in our driveway without complaints from our neighbors. Lots of advantages. But, they are not for everyone. I know that. If you take a look around, most of the active owners are "car people", meaning they also have hot rods or tinker with some kind of classic vehicle. In doing that, most are social folks. They like gathering with others of similar interests. Many are retired and have the time to keep their GMC in tip top shape, while using it on a very regular basis. We enjoy calling our vendors and giving them a rash of S--t because we know they will take it as we intend and not get upset. I rake Jim K. over the coals at every convention, then he takes me out for supper. Hey, what can I say?
The GMC is just not for everyone and I realize that. When one decides to sell, it is the best opportunity for a new person to come into our ranks. Makes life good among old timers.
Certainly I can go on and on but I am singing to the choir here. At the moment, there are some good coaches for sale at good prices. If I was in the market, I would be running around the country finding the one that best suited me.
We use our GMC a lot and it has only failed us twice. I think that is a pretty good record, running 40k plus since 07.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

We bought a new '97 40' Safari Ivory Edition which we kept for 9 years. It
was a good coach after I spent the first year completing the construction
of it and bringing up to my specifications. Then we bought the GMC in '98.
We still have the GMC. We enjoyed the Safari when spending several months
at a time in it -- but after the GMC invaded our lives, we always had it
with us too during those long times away from home -- it seemed to follow
us everywhere we went so we could take it to rallies. We don't miss the
big one, which originally cost $185K and sold for $85K The GMC cost $10k
and is still worth that or more. (I've admittedly spent a little more on
it in the meantime -- but nowhere near $100K.)

Chris,
The Aussies have a saying; "horses for courses" and since Helen and I use our GMC in the USA for touring; it is the perfect size for
that purpose. I have parked it many can park it on city streets.
Having said that back when I was a newbie if I would have known that Avion made a '23 coach with a fold out double bed behind the
passenger and driver seats I would have bought one of those.
http://www.bdub.net/publications/Avion2/avion-int-231.htm
Mike Miller found one in South Carolina but the guy that was(is?) selling it wants silly money for it and besides Double Trouble has
been good to us since we owned it and I've done a lot of work to it and really don’t want to start over.
