You will like it. Does lots of stuff for you. I have the 2020. I think Carl S. has the 25. Serious dry campers need something like this.

Is this the one that shows how much current is being pulled out of the batteries (or being put back in)???

I have a Trimetric 2025 and Like it a lot. There is no more guessing at battery condition or trying to read the voltage with a volt meter, a virtual impossibility due to such things as 'surface charge' etc. This is a must for anyone who dry camps and should be one of the first steps in a solar system. Like Dan says, "You will like it". It is like a gas gauge for your batteries. It not only tells you the current draw or charge in real time, it will tell you how many amp hours down your batteries are, and what the percentage of charge is in them. Very helpful.

Is the set-up (configuration) any different
if you have a solar system?

In other words, is the wiring of this monitor
done differently if/when you add solar panels?

Is there additional hardware required?

Which other brands do you guys like?

No difference if you have a solar system or not, it is independent of that
system. It gets hooked up to a shunt that is hooked to the battery(s)

To add to what Ray said, you just need to connect the cable from the solar charge controller to the shunt resistor for the meter. That way the meter reads the solar charge going into the batteries.
