Some very interesting photos. One has a very attractive travel trailer pulled by a nice Pontiac station wagon. Another showing Nebraska pushing Corn Alcohol back in the thirties (looks like from the cars)...

OK, how did they stack those cars six layers high behind the Texaco service station? Big Forklift?

Nope, those parking lot racks have a turntable elevator, complete with
NON-STONED ELEVATOR OPERATORS. Probably be a real bad idea today.(grin)

Here are a couple pics of a restored gas station we ran across in Shamrock, TX. on our way to the GMCMI Convention in Shawnee last year:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/gmcmi-shawnee-2012/p47103-gas-station-in-shamrock-tx.html

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/gmcmi-shawnee-2012/p47106-gas-station-in-shamrock-tx.html

We got there (to the ramshackle RV park) and parked the coach, with towd, a little late in the evening and didn't make the effort to go out for a photo op. When we left in the morning, it was too dark to take pictures. This is along old route 66, just south of I-40. Well worth the short detour to see it.

Actually with 2 stacks of 3 cars the lift would not be that high or 3
stacks 2 lifting the larger 4 stack onto the 2 stack. Stack Balance

That gas station in Shamrock, Tx was used in the original CARS movie. Did
you notice the "real" Mater parked down the street?

Nelson,

There were several of those in NYC when I was young. What you can't see is the lift that is between the two units. They fell out of favor for some reason. I do not know. I do know that something similar was built and used at the old St. Joe hospital in Ann Arbor (MI). They have moved and I don't know what has become of it. That one was automated.

There was one of those parking contraptions in nyc around West 39th street I think. I always wondered about the skill level required to pick the car random in The stack. It was still there a couple of years ago.
Kind of reminds me of those little square puzzels where you had to line up all the numbers with only one blank space to move in. It's a Hell of a thing!

Bomber Gas is still in business on Rt 30 in Oregon. The plane is quite sad and the nose section was removed for restoration some years ago. It (the nose) sits in an adjacent building and restoration is well along. As for the rest of the plane.....

Tim,

I got this series of photos from someone can't remember who due to CRS and I too spotted the photo touting "Corn Alcohol." If you
look in the lower left hand corner of that photo you will see a date 4-11-33.

I forwarded it to a number of gear heads / GMCers over there and someone noted that must have played hell with the rubber compounds
they used for fuel lines back then.

Regards,
Rob M.

Actually the gas station closed a few years back. the B17G bomber is owned by the resturant named "The Bomber Resturant". Bing maps has a good birds eye view... "13515 SE McLoughlin Blvd., Milwaukie, Oregon"

I have been told the food there is pretty good but haven't tried it myself. (Been meaning to.) Might be a good place to have a Northwest GMC Mini Rally... kind of like that bunch down in Oki, Texas or somewhere.... Twisted Evil

The Shell Station photo with the station wagon pulling the aluminum trailer is actually a black and white fairly current photo. The station is at the Gilmore Museum at Hickory Corners north east of Kalamazoo Michigan.
