I hope yall don't get tired of me yacking all the time...

My side panels are really brittle but for now they will have to do. But the wife's map pocket was really sad. Cracked and wouldn't stay in the warped hole. Needed something better.

Photo album at: http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/aluminum-map-pocket/p47007-c-005.html

Here is what I started with.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_005.jpg
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_005.jpg

Because the area inside the pocket isn't nice and vertical, I made a couple templates to verify what I had to work with.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_006.jpg
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_006.jpg

Once I had a plan, I sheared and marked a piece of aluminum.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_007.jpg
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_007.jpg

The basic bottom was bent in a sheet metal brake but the lips were done with a body hammer over a post dolly. Just light hits...aluminum moves very easily and quick. Speed is not your friend with aluminum.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_008.jpg
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_008.jpg

This is the finished inside lip that goes down over the side.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_009.jpg
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_009.jpg

A couple end caps were cut and welded in.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_010.jpg
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_010.jpg

A little file work and it's done. Notice the shape of the pocket is actually curved. 7" deep and 1 3/4" wide.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_011.jpg
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_011.jpg

Here it is in place. Not great but it will do. I screwed up and made it from .050 instead of my normal .063 and the thinner material is more unforgiving.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_012.jpg
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_012.jpg

It extends to where the ash tray was. The plastic was broken out and we don't smoke anyway.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_013.jpg
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6264/C_013.jpg

I might need to put some silicone under it to keep it from rattling. Won't know until I drive it tomorrow.

Not ecstatic about it but it beats the hole that was there before...

Great Kerry. I always enjoy info of what folks are doing to/with their coaches. Wish I could find an easy way to modify the plastic for a couple of cup holders there.

That is next but I wanted the wife to see how much room she wanted and where the cup holder should be. The plastic is brittle and once it is cut...it's done ya know.

I made a quick center console with cup holders....out of wood Shocked Laughing

Bad photo and you can't see the front side. Four cup holders with modified clip on cup holders that will hold a supersize drink or a small bottle of water. 3 plug cigarette lighter adapter with 2 USB charging ports also...haven't tried them yet with our phones. If they work it will be a plus. Satellite radio mounts there also.

I got one of the Kobalt tool kits during their Christmas sale and it fits inside the bottom and anchors it in place. If I need to open the hatch, I'll lift out the tool box and lift off the console.

Better put in a little drain hole - why? Well if yours is anything like
most the chances of water getting into it is there.

Just keep talking and working on new items for the coach.

What if you took a piece of vacuum hose and slit it lengthwise and slipped it on as a lacing around the perimeter. Would cover corners and you wouldnt need the dreaded silicone

Or you could use the same trim JimB was talking bout for the trim around the windows. It is actually made to trim things like this!
