My new Tires came in at PepBoys a few weeks back and I went over the weekend to get them on.Well they were GONE!!!I went there today to see them. The installer put them on a 26000 lb 24' Moving Box truck that was supposed to have 16 inch tires!!!!!The guy
drove for a week and could have killed not only himself but everyone around him. They
have 6 more coming for me and I may get 2 for spares. They look ok but,Woosh!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how many young folks that may be working at the tire stores even realize that tires came in 16 1/2" sizes (or the even more obscure size that Michelin made tires in), and would just think that must be correct?
Thankfully no one was injured, but this is scary. Can't even imagine what sort of an accident driving that box van may have caused if the mistake wasn't found!

Tony, I think after that I'd ask for a refund of the installation/balance fee and take the tires someplace trustworthy to mount and balance.

Sir: I would think putting 16.5s on a 16 rim would not really hurt the tire. A 16 tire on a 16.5 rim not so good on the tire. I`d keep them all.. Just really glad you didn`t have split ring rims.. You did check your 16.5 rims for being for radial tires?

what is the MAX weight rating for the tire?
I would be afraid of belt damage with the heavier truck and what ever was loaded into it. If the tire was grossly over loaded it would still be dangerous to use for anything more than a farm wagon.

Michelin had tires in 365, 390, and 415 mm diameter, as did Avon in at least the 390 mm size.
The .5 sizes had 15* bead angles as compared to the standard 5* for whole inch sizes. You really have to have your head screwed on backwards to mix them up when mounting them. Trying to seat the bead of a 16" tire on a 16.5" rim WILL have explosive results (there's a good reason why it says to never exceed 40psi to seat the beads), but hey, that's what Darwin awards are for.
Having been in close proximity to one destroying itself, I can attest it is not an event you will soon forget. The blast was enough to shake decades of dust out of the rafters rendering zero visibility, not to mention convincing everyone (for a few moments anyway) that Judgment Day had indeed arrived.

The Michelin's that are on it now, they are from 1987......
They were discontinued in 1990!!!! so a brand new American
tire Will be a huge improvement. They are in perfect shape
but 25 years old....No F-ing Way I can drive more than a couple
miles without white knuckles and sweat.I Will let you all know how they feel.
