Here are the further adventures of my quest to calibrate my tranny dipstick per the Mueller Method.....when we last left this issue, I had discovered that I was an idiot, and had removed the GOVERNOR and filled up the hole with ATF. I think it took about 20 gallons but my memory is a little foggy. Upon discovering that it was the MODULATOR hole that was my target, I pulled the modulator out, and drained the tranny down to the correct level and replaced the modulator and reconnected the vacuum line. Then I proceeded to continue my packing for my Omaha trip, safe in the knowledge that I had the ATF thing behind me. About an hour before we were to leave yesterday, I thought I should take the old gal around the block and make sure everything was a "go". Well......it wasn't.

Didn't shift and I was worried about getting back to my garage, let alone to Omaha. As some may recall, I mentioned that the modulator in my "spares" was physically smaller then the one on the tranny. I went ahead an replaced that old one with the new one, made by Pioneer. I also surmised that, possibly, the old one, in fairness, was not seated properly, and that the vacuum line, while connected, might not have been connected well. Nevertheless, the spare Pioneer, smaller modulator solved all of my issues. and we left 45 minutes late, arriving in Omaha last night 7 hours later. Great trip, nothing like elbows on the OEM armrests and picky finger on the steering wheel.

Larry,

I don't think you're an idiot at all, I think you're a great guy for sharing the story of your screw up - I'll bet anyone that has
read the saga won't make the same mistake.

People that share their mistakes are hero's in my book, you join RayE in the book who forgot to fill his final drive with fluid
after replacing it.

As they say it is good to learn from your mistakes, even better to learn from someone else's!

Regards,
Rob M.

Larry,

It is important to learn from mistakes.
The only thing better than learning from your own mistakes is learning from others mistakes.
(It is also less painful and can be much less expensive.)
This can only happen when you know about them. I have only owned a GMC for six years, and I have aired some mistakes here, but unfortunately most of my really great "learning experiences" have little to do with GMC things.

Thank you for sharing.

Matt
