When I was looking for a tool box for this installation:

The box pictured is manufactured by Kennedy, it carries an RRP of $600+, I got lucky an found one on eBay down in Florida and R.
McDonald was kind enough to pick it up, pack it, and Greyhound it to me in Humble.
I must admit it was a couple of years ago when looked at it in the Harbor Freight Store in Houston and at that time it seemed to be
the same thickness of metal, the same non-ball bearing slides and while it wasn't as well made as the Kennedy it seemed acceptable
to me.
Are you basing your statement on experience with this particular tool box or expressing general comments about Chinese products,
Harbor Freight, or making a general statement.
I can assure you had I not looked at the box and found it to be of reasonable quality I wouldn't have posted it. Also since it was a
couple of years ago and it is quite possible that the quality had gone down and it is now a piece of crap.

I too have a nice Craftsman box (12 drawers?) and can certainly say I've never regretted spending the money on it (especially since it was a gift) 
FWIW, I've bought a lot of Harbor Freight tools over the last 12 years (since I moved just a few miles from a brick-and-mortar HF store). Some of 'em were just above junk status, and others have held up admirably. I know that the toolbox I put together for my GMC is almost entirely HF tools.
My philosophy is this - if it's a tool I'm going to use regularly for the rest of my life, I'll buy a quality (normally US-made) tool and spend the bucks. If it's a "specialty tool" that I may only use a few times over the next few decades, I'll roll the dice and get a HF tool. Since I plan (hope, pray...) not to use the tools I carry in my GMC too often, it only made sense to have a bunch of HF tools in the bin, instead of an expensive set of Snap-On or even Craftsman tools gathering dust 99.9% of the time.
As for the tool box Rob turned us on to, I'd be more than willing to have one in my garage based on his recommendation alone (the fact it would require me to park the car outside will keep this hypothetical situation from ever happening though).

I may have already posted this, but I picked up a
"227 piece" Kobalt tool set at just under $100
(normally $200) at Lowe's on a black Friday special.
It included 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" sockets and handles,
etc. plus other tools. It will reside in the GMC and
I will add other tools as needed to it. I have small
tool box that I used to keep on my boat to fill out
that new Kobalt set.
I rate Kobalt stuff as better than most H.F. stuff
and believe that Northern Tool stuff is a bit above
the average H.F. items.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, however, Dan made me realize something, I should have worded my recommendation a bit better. I.E.
Harbor Freight is selling a tool box for $159 with a coupon, I looked at this toolbox awhile back and it appeared to be OK. It's on
sale over the weekend so if you need a tool box visit Harbor Freight and look at it yourself. The SKU number is XXXXX. If you need a
copy of the coupon I can email it to you.

THIS IS NOT MEANT AS A POLITICAL STATEMENT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM!
I agree with you 100% vis-à-vis the loss of jobs from the "developed countries" to the "third world." I understand the theory behind
free trade and a global economy as it raises the standard of living in the third world and eventually the whole world is at the same
level. However, It seems that along with free trade agreements governments should provide incentives to companies to keep
manufacturing in country.
The auto industry in Australia I heavily subsidized by the government because it is not profitable on its own. There are two major
car companies; Ford and Holden (GM) that build vehicles here. Mitsubishi does also but I'm not sure just how much actual building is
happening vs. assembly of foreign made parts.
A population of 25 million just can’t support the manufacturers. They do protect the industry by having serious import duties and
taxes on imported vehicles to close the gap between foreign imports and local manufactured vehicles. However, recently Great Wall
has begun selling UTE's (kinda like a pickup truck) here for a hell of a lot less than equivalent Aussie made vehicles. I haven't
read any reports on what they're like but I'm sure they are selling cause they’re CHEAP!
If the auto industry were to close down it would cause terrific unemployment problems and the loss of a skill set. At the end of the
day if you don't protect your manufacturing industries you become a country of burger flippers!

When I attended a technical school for BioMedical Engineering, we used to ask those who did not seem to study or care if they were working on their degree in Burger flipping, and reminding them the key sentence was, "Do you want fries with that?" Reminded some what they were doing there, and others never caught on.

While I agree with the idea of protecting your countries internal "capabilities." (Manufacturing industries is just one.) There are different ways. Import duties, making everyone else's stuff just as expensive as yours, doesn't say much about your effectiveness... and might not really protect what you are trying to protect. I do not have time right now to get into it. I'll think a bit while at work, and if I figure out a good way to say it and have time, I might post something in the sandbox.

Why do we as a group all own a motor vehicle that was manufactured in a
climate of "If we can dream it, we can build it" ? We all for the most
part, have a huge respect for mom's apple pie, freedom, and the American
Way. That way is under assault in the present era. Must be time to roll up
our sleeves and start teaching our next generations how to lay brick, drive
a nail, and dream the impossible dream again. Generation "Y", it is time
for a reality check in my personal opinion.

Well we our kids and grandkids are doing our part.
Oldest grandson is have a ball working the ski lifts at Tahoe this winter.
Then it's back to building off road racing trucks in the spring.
He can build and fix just about any thing with wheels plus he is not to bad
as a finish carpenter.
His brother is racing motor cycles in the dirt and learning pattern making
at a foundry in Sparks NV.
The 16 year old grandson in Denver has his full pilots license as of last
week.
Still he has not gotten his drivers licenses.
His younger brother is still not sure at age 13.
Killer at Yo-Yo placed second state wide in Colorado this year.
Our eight year old grandson in Tennessee won a full four scholarship to U of
T this past fall.
So who is bragging?
