I have no clue what this is or why it's there.

it appears to be 1 1/2 PVC, threaded into the air box. The end is capped. It rotates but won't unscrew which leads me to think there is a plastic nut on the other side of the box.
Any idea what this could be and what, if any, value there is in leaving it in place. It is right in front of the radiator cap and makes it nearly impossible to get the radiator cap off.

Kerry,
That appears to be what they call a mystery of life. First on I have seen!

Whatever it is you have a disconnected hose right above it. I think the disconnected hose supplies warm air to your blower motor to keep it warm.

That is what I was thinking. He also could have used a vacuum hose to vent cold air somewhere too.Like with an external fan sucking from the box going somewhere in
the coach .Who knows?Man, it does seem like your PO did a ton of mods back in the
day.

It appears to be an air supply duct. Try again to remove the cap. '75 &
'76 GMCs AC units can move a lot of air if you find a way to supply it to
the blower. Looks like this could be an attempt.

Here is my guess:
I suspect it might have been put there to support the AC line. ( that line is the suction side of the compressor or low pressure side) there is very little to support that line and the PO may have wanted to avoid line breakage at the evaporator. That line goes directly to the engine and compressor from there and would be subject to a lot of vibration. That being said however, I cannot see in this picture, if the hose is connected or clamped to that standoff. Maybe it needs to be clamped to it to complete the "PO upgrade"
It could also have been put there to push the line away from some of the sharp metal of the radiator frame as the line passes it to the motor.
That PVC fitting is on the high pressure side (outlet) of the fan and ahead of the evaporator, so air would want to come out af the AC box and it would be ambient temperature. (Not really useful for anything as far as I can imagine. )
Best regards
