G'day,
This could be one of those things that only happens to us, but when doing our annual vehicle check, before our annual trek south for the summer, a chaffed fuel hose was noticed.
When repacking the rear wheel bearings, I took a quick look at the fuel hoses leading from the fuel separator in the wheel arch down through the gap between the body and chassis. Pulling the hoses out from behind the small "guard" fitted over where the hoses curve under the body, the outer covering of all the hoses were chaffed through. They had rubbed on the top of the "guard", which has a straight cut edge. A couple of minutes with the multi-grips and the first 1/4" was bent out 45 degrees to stop this happening again.
Hard to see this without taking the wheel off, but could be one the causes of those intermittent fuel smells.
