Notice Onan? How could I miss? Don't forget the casual reference half way through.
But it was fun watching him keep that tail happy Porsche on the road.
Did you notice the starter standing on the track and the corner workers right on track edge?

Taking my GMC to the vintage races was one of my desires in purchasing the coach in the first place. Being able to stay at the track and take in the entire weekend is the best way to experience the races.
Thankfully, the camping prices for these races are not so bad. When I saw what RV spots were priced at for the Grand Prix at Austin, Tx this year, I figured that watching on Speed was a better option.

How about that VW bus fifth wheel with trailer at 6:15. Anyone know more about that as never seen one. Wheels looked strange too. That guy driving ran a pretty lousy line from what I could see.

I wonder if a few coaches would want to get together at Road America for one of the races this coming year? The grounds are certainly vast enough to handle a group with no problem. They have Motorhome information on their website, and the location about one hour north of Milwaukee is pretty easy to get to.

Actually, Road America does have 50amp electrical sites (no water or sewer hook ups however) along the main straight just south of the grandstands. Don't know prices as it varies with the event. The Brian Redman Vintage event is probably the best turnout of cars, and is usually a fun time. It can be hot, but as with all weather, you never know till you get there.
Other Motorhome areas are also available around the track, but none with electrical hook ups. They are shown on the camping map at the Road America website, and some are in more shaded areas if they're not along the straightaways. Either way, could be a fun time and a nice turnout of GMCs would be very fitting with the vintage cars!

Along those same lines, does anyone go to Road Atlanta? I could hit the track with a slingshot from my backyard.

Neither have in my estimation decent groceries... although the stuff the high rollers' enclave turns out is edible. However, the cognoscenti are aware there are a ha;f dozen pretty good (which means to a Yankee dam' delicious) barbecue joints several killer Mexican and generic Hispanic places, and countless asian restaurants close by. Or you can ease down to Chateau Elan and do the multi course French Thang if your pocket is up to it. Track food is like dog show food, that's why we take the GMC.

Nice track, but terrible food compared to Road America. Also, that red clay gets into everything :).

You didn't really see any kudzu. Run back down this way and I'll show you a couple of Stage Four kudzu overruns.

Well for this northern boy what I saw was disturbing. Kudzu - the plant that ate the south. When I was a kid in the 50's we really knew we were in the south when we saw Spanish moss. Now it seems to be kudzu. (Back then it was a trip, no freeways to speak of. Some stretches of 4 lane US highway, not limited access, near larger cities. Kinda fun to take some of those roads now. There is almost no traffic. One I'm thinking of is Hwy 41 through Indiana.
First trip from WI to FL, after I had my drivers license, Dad said "I'm tired, you drive". Great, I've had my license about 2 months, we're on US 45, lots of truck traffic, it's getting dark and we're just getting into the TN mountains (well back then they were mountains to me.)

Johnny,
I was at Road Atlanta in 1972 (holy crap, that's FORTY years ago!) and was on the back straight when Denny Hulme's McLaren M20 went
airborne. As I watched the front end lifted a bit and the next second I could see the entire underside of the car as it did a
reverse loop and landed on the track upside down. It then careened off the track heading in my direction. I took off running kinda
sideways looking back over my shoulder (I didn't want to get clobbered but wasn't going to miss the action! It came to rest about
three feet from where I had been standing as shown in the video! Fortunately as noted in the video below Denny was not hurt.

Can Am 1972 Part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDwOhTS-p4Q
In my opinion the Can Am series with no limitations or restrictions produced the most unbelievable race vehicle in history; the
Porsche 917/10, 20 & 30! Years later I visited the Porsche museum in Zuffenhausen, Germany. One of the engines that went in those
vehicles was on display. It was an exploded model and the crankshaft was amazing.
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/pic/422/Porsche-917-30_22.html
http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/pic/422/Porsche-917-30_23.html
It was constructed using individual splined shafts and throws that were pressed together. Can you imagine the tolerances that had
to be maintained when machining those splines? At 3:47 minutes into the video below you can see how long (front to rear) the 12
cylinder boxer was. I'm guessing it was between 4-5 feet long!
If you got a few bucks to spare you could buy this beauty in August.
