Wow, just came across this while checking out the other
thread about tire pressure monitoring.

This thing will tell me when I am drifting out of my lane,
tailgating or speeding.

Anyone try this of something along these lines?

I have the analog version of this. She usually sits in the passenger seat. Very effective but no volume control.

John,

Me TOO!

I find the lack of volume control quite helpful, the louder the output the more serious the problem perceived!

The operative word in the previous sentence is "perceived."

Rob M.

Not for an iPhone, it is for Android devices and it does work. Not all smart phones are iPhones.

My ex-boss downloaded the app for his iPhone, I will probably do the same since I used to be the collision avoidance engineer. One comment the current engineer made was that it does not recognize an intentional lane change since it is not tied to the turn signals, so you will probably get a warning.

I will give an update once I have had time to play with it.

Looking forward to your update.

However, it seems to me that keeping one's eyes on the road and brain
focused on the job of driving would work as well. What am I missing.

There you go again Byron...

Don't you realize that it is no longer expected that people will:
A - Think extemporaneously
B - Pay attention to the task at hand

I loaded it out completely out of curiosity.
It does have a:
PLEASE NOTE!
Using this application does not replace safe driving habits.

That may the most valuable part of it. I may just take it for a drive today and tell you more about it, if there is more to tell.

Matt

Summary: The lite version is possibly worth the price at "Free".

I put it in my passcar. The body is a typical type. By the time you get it high enough to see the road properly, it is so close to you that it is hard to change focus. If you need reading glasses, forget it.

As to the actual program. It is kind of neat, but the good ends there.
- It never gave me any information that I did not already have.
- The speedometer is very slow to respond. (When I did a 0-60 pull, I was at 60 before it read 40.)
- If the weather isn't good, like a light mist, it doesn't seem to be able to figure anything out. I was often able to get perilously close to another vehicle before it told me I should back down.
- It does not seem to understand curving roads.
- While it has a speed warning, that value is impractical to reset underway. The speedometer lag also diminishes its possible value by a great extent.

Matt,

Thanks for the initial review.

The "smarts" that this app relies on is great. It isn't realistic,
however. I can also see how a mist can fool it. At night it could be a
hoot based on the configuration of the tail lights on the vehicle you are
behind. Some LEDs are much brighter than some old bulbs, etc. Of course,
some truckers like to decorate their trailers like Christmas trees as far
as number of lights (he who has the most lights wins). My primary concern
with be the latency of the GPS receiver. It is designed more for something
like a rapid transit system where the driver falls asleep at the helm and
rams into the rear of another train.

Byron
