We spent the night at Rockhound State Park, outside of Deming, NM,
last night for our first overnight trip in our GMC motorhome.
We left yesterday, before lunch. The door decided to fly open just
before we got on the highway, but we noticed it in time and secured it
before moving on. I really need to fix that.
It was a short drive, maybe ten miles. It was a bit windy, so it was
hard to assess the handling. My wife was riding in the back with the
animals and said the rear end was all over the road, but I didn't
really notice it. I did notice that it tended to pull to the right
when we drove over cattle guards.
My dog isn't a great traveler, but loves the park. My cat travels
fine, but hates camping.
Without working propane in the coach, we weren't able to use the
stove, oven, or furnace, so we cooked over a portable camp stove, and
used an electric kettle for hot water. This was actually a big upgrade
from our last camping trip, so I'm not complaining.
Our coach has the convertible side-facing settee/double bed in the
back. After sleeping on it, I know why so many people convert these to
permanent bed. That project is officially on the list.
Woke up at about 6am today, ate some oatmeal and coffee, and then
cranked the engine. It started right up, in spite of it being 32F
outside. Sometimes I get a lot of blue smoke when I start the coach
early on a cold morning, but it didn't happen today, which is good,
because the campground was packed.
The drive home was uneventful, and we're already unpacked. Winter is
about to kick in for real down here, so I doubt we'll be taking any
more trips until the spring. For a first short trip, this was pretty
great, in spite of the fact that we had no heat or running water -
that said, I've been told that was the last trip we're taking until we
get those particular items working :D

Sean,
Looks like you had a good time, that's great.
I'll bet by the spring you'll have the bugs worked out; that should make "she who must be obeyed happy!"
What are the dog and cat's names?
Regards,
Rob M.

Lookin' good! None of my dogs will toleratre being clipped out like that - they take one look and then turn and scissor the tether. They travel on lead or in the coach or in their crate outside.
