On another motor home forum I am reading about
engine/transmission/coach diagnostics and control.

As some of you SOB owners know the old Aladdin systems can be replaced/upgraded to modern equipment.

Have any of you looked at using this gear on your GMC?

Here are some links...

I spoke with one of the techs at Silver Leaf and he seemed very willing to
configure their gear to my needs.

I've been thinking about researching basic OBD sensors for the GMC. I'm currently using the Torque Pro Android app and bluetooth transponderon other vehicles. Total cost was under $20. Works great.

On another motor home forum I am reading about
engine/transmission/coach diagnostics and control.

I want to find something that will do a OBD for my carburetor fuel system with mechanical distributor. Then I might be interested. If I was to put on one of the described systems with EFI, EBL and WUD, I can't think why I would want to add this.

I have four road worthy vehicles. Two have OBDII, one has a proprietary system, and the coach (early iron age). The only one doesn't have a MIL lit (you call it a check engine) is the coach. The only one I can fix with out an investment greater than the vehicle value is the coach.

That doesn't make this bad, it just makes not real valuable for an unmodified coach and less valuable when a WUD is already available.

If it was cheap enough, I wouldn't mind having OBD and apps as an alternate system. The real-time logging of temperatures under various test conditions has been useful. And though I haven't used it, I believe the app can be set to monitor and alarm. That'd be nice, particularly if I let my family borrow the coach.

What is 'WUD ' ?

What's Up Display (WUD) is the display that comes with the EBL fuel injection. Think of it as ODB II on steroids. It basically gives you every engine sensor reading you could think of and a bunch I still don't completely understand. I do drive with the RPM, instant MPG, Trip MPG and gallons used. They appear in huge letters, easier to read than my oil gauge. It is running on a laptop but I pipe mine to my iPad or iPhone on the dash.

Gene,
They made S10's a long time. If it was from 1982 until, I think 1985 it was carburetor. From 1986 or so until 1995 it is OBDI. From 1996 till the end (2003 I think . . .) All those years are from a pretty foggy memory, and are for "Federal" vehicles. You Caleefornian's may have switched one year earlier depending on various emission rules and phase-in strategies. At least for federal (non-California) the 1996 year is common across GM (and probably all the other automakers) as it was an EPA requirement.
