hello. i know this might be basic electrics but i dont feel like frying these new leds I bought.
there are three wires that come from the coach to the light fixture. i understand one is ground and the other is live, but what is the third? and what is the arrangement of the wires? the lights I want to wire up only have a live and a ground.

If this is the light over the sink on a standard GM upfitted coach, I think they had a way to turn on the light from the switch by the door.
I do not have the computer that has the GMC diagrams at the moment so I can not double check. (Wife has learned to Skype and it has a built in camera.)

Michael,
Your shop manual is your friend: The living area wiring diagram shows
those three wires. One comes directly from the 12 VDC fuse. Another comes
from the same fuse through a switch. The third is ground. With no similar
coach, I can't say for sure, but I suspect there's a remote switch and a
switch in the fixture. If you just wire the LED as the bulb is wired, you
should retain that feature. If your're replacing the fixture with one
without a switch, then tape off the always-hot lead and use the remote
switch.
All of the wiring diagrams are at www.bdub.net, or you can order large,
readable ones from: http://bdub.net/GMC_Motorhome_Wiring_Diagrams.pdf
