I know guys are thinking he sure has lots of questions?
And you would be right!

And sure there will be many more!

Cause there are lots of smart people on here and they have been there and done that. Maybe we need t-shirts.

Ok.. Here it is .. My air bags pumped right up a year ago after sitting for 10 years. Now I noticed one has a cone thats broke.
Airbag still holding air. let some pressure off since its jacked up.

Can I just replace the cone?

You don't have those plastic cones do you? Many years ago it was recomended that the plastic cones be replaced with aluminum ones.

You need to replace all 4 of them with the aluminum version.
Someone who has replaced their original bags with a 4 bag system
should have a set available. Just be sure that they are the metal ones.

Joe,

You probably have plastic cones, which are prone to breakage. You can just
replace the cone, but need to check the other 3 also and replace them if
they're not aluminum. Someone who's installed SullyBilt or other upgrades
should have cones available.

Joe,

Would be nice if you would create a signature that includes the year and model of your GMC and where you're located.

Yes if the air bag holds air and appears to be sound no reason you can't just change the cone.

However, be advised that GMC replaced the plastic cones with cast aluminum cones, I would suggest that you replace all four of them
with aluminum cones.

I'm fairly confident that sure someone will pipe up that they have a set they'll part with.

Would be great to find some aluminum cones.. did not want to replace bags till the restoration was completed.. but will be nice to move it around and drive around the block and dream.

Since the last day of April '98. On 1 May 98, 75 miles shy of home, I
totaled the 59,065 mile original engine. :-(

Joe,

If no one has any aluminum cones, I know I have some good plastic cones on hand -- free plus shipping -- which could provide service until you find the aluminum. I do not know if I have any aluminum.

JimB -- Jim Bounds, GMC Coop gmccoop.com

JimK -- Jim Kanomata, AppliedGMC.com

Leigh Harrison in Virginia at IdencorpGMC.com may also have some.

Before you settle on new cones, just take a minute to look at this of similar systems being sold by the two Jim's. You are going to have to change the bags someday anyway, so maybe do it now. JMHO

Larry thats exactly the system I intend to use.. But right now money is a problem..General Contractors have taken a beaten lately. Need to spend the monies to finish up the inside. Little by little. Cones will get me by for now.

Plenty of time no money! Use to be plenty of money no time! well not plenty..lol
