Hey All;

I've been looking all over and have been unable to find a part
number for the OEM master cylinder. Can anyone point me to the right
number?. I'm at the Weed, CA Rest Area for the night, but I would like
to see if I can replace the MC in Yreka. Thanks.

Gary,

If you need a hand in that area, there is a mobile mechanic that works that area. He drives a early 50's Dodge PU with a flatbed. He has a vise and an air compressor (for his air tools) bolted to the back. I need to find his card to get him added to the "good service" list, but the NAPA stores in the area have his number.

Gary, there is a Baxter auto parts store in yreka. They open at 8:00 am
Their phone number is 530 842 2731. They should be able to get you one. The
Raybestos part number is mc39075. They should be able to cross that number
to any other brand. Let me know if that won't work. I have one in the shop.
I can get it to you somehow.

Gary, are you still having issues even after getting the
brakes pressure bled?

For the 1 1/4 bore the Autozone number is NM 1730.

For 1 1/8 it is NM 1732

Hey Terry;

Yep, still having problems with the pedal going to the floor once
in awhile (98% of the time). If I hit the brake pedal fast, I have
great brakes and all is right with the world. If I slowly hit the
brakes, the pedal goes to the floor. So I think there are 2 things
that might be going on here. The first is that while manually bleeding
the brakes (not gravity bleeding) we didn't limit the travel of the
internals of the MC by putting a piece of wood under the brake pedal.
This means that we went past the worn spot of the MC bore and possibly
damaged the cups on the inside (this is what JimH thinks and I tend to
agree). The second is that now the whole system is using more fluid
and the internals are moving further into the bore than before, so the
cups on the inside might be going over some rust holes in the bottom
of the bore and allowing the fluid to leak past the cups. Either way
requires a new MC. Now I just need to find one.

Gary, what you just described is classic mc failure. When you jump on the
pedal, the cups rapidly expand against the cylinder walls. When you push
slowly they slide by and leak internally. I knew i should have checked the
dam thing at red bluff. It would have been a simple thing to fix it there.
You and Mr. T probably caused the failure by overstroking the operating
rod. Keep me posted.

Look in your GMCMI Parts Interchange booklet.
It lists many of the: Wagner, NAPA, EIS, etc.

Emery, Gary is presently in a rest stop in weed California which, if it
isn't the hubs of hell, you can certainly see them from there. I am pretty
sure he does not have his Gmc international parts list with him.

Hey All;

Made it ti Yreka, CA. Found an O'Rellys open and picked up a MC.
Did the bench bleed, and installed it. Just tested the brakes by
backing up and moving forward in the parking lot. The brakes are
higher and they aren't leaking down as before, and they stopped the
coach in both directions. I would like to once again thank Jim Hupy
for his invaluable help and to Gene Fisher for all of the great
information on his site (plus he is just a real nice guy). I'm off to
see if I can make it down the Ashland grade in a controlled manner
(cause I know I can make it down no matter what).

Hey All;

Sorry for the delay. Was having too good of a time with my cousin
in Springfield, OR. Yep, the Ashland was a cinch. I came down it
keeping my speed at 45mph with judicious use of the new brakes, and
then made it through all of the mountain peaks and 6% grades between
Medford and Springfield with GREAT brakes. I think they are getting
better and better. I did have to make a very rapid stop after filling
up at Costco and then heading back to the freeway in Medford. I was
moving along at a pretty good clip on a parkway and I came upon a
light that changed from green to yellow. Wasn't going to make it
through the signal before it turned red so I hit the brakes hard. The
Stretch just hunkered down and came to a rather quick stop. It was
fantastic.Everyone said that I would be amazed with the disk brake
setup (this is Manny's new setup) and they were right. For me this is
an elegant upgrade. And the new parking brake calipers are working
great. I just have to keep remembering to set them to off before I
take off cause I'm not use to having them. Again, I would like to
thank everyone for their help. PoohBear and I are in Salem, OR with
old friends (Gene, Roger and Susanne said to say HI) and are having a
blast talking about old times when we all worked for mr.erf.
