Keep in mind the stock crank shaft seal is only rated to 250 degrees much higher and you will end up with a leaky seal. Which is why
I used a higher temperature rated seal and an external oil cooler in series with the cooler in the Aluminum radiator.

Rob,
Even with the shipping you're still ahead. Toll roads over and back plus the fuel while sitting in Houston traffic may have cost more.

Gee Rob I guess I was lucky SKF had a special going when I got mine the shipping was free clear across the country. Most Napa sells SKF so they should be able to special order the seal. Does the olds seal fit the Cadillac too? Anyone towing or residing in a warm part of the country should take the time to use this seal when replacing an engine or a leaky seal. My National seal was leaking badly with only 2000 miles on a fresh rebuild.

Carlton,

The Ford 460 main seal is for the flywheel end.

The CR / SKF 19923 is on the counterbalance end.

Rob M.

Doug when my front seal was leaking badly my rear 460ford seal was leaking a little. It has since stopped leaking. If I were putting in a rear ford seal I would research it and use a high temperature seal if it was available. Summit has high temp seals for Some engines.

Rob, is this a 'sneaky Pete' type of seal? In other words, can it be replaced without pulling the engine or dropping a main? My front seal is leaking on the 'new' coach and while it isn't leaking enough to drip on the driveway, the bottom of the oil pan and surrounding area is pretty well oiled. Replacing the seal is definitely on the list of things to do.

Per the 1974 Maintenance Manual:
FRONT COVER OIL SEAL REMOVAL (FRONT COVER INSTALLED)
1. Raise motor home.
2. Loosen belts so they may be slipped off crankshaft pulley.
3. Remove crankshaft pulley and harmonic balancer. Refer to "Crankshaft Pulley" and "Harmonic Balancer" earlier in this section.
4. Pry seal out of cover from the front with a large screwdriver, being careful not to damage the surface on the crankshaft.

INSTALLATION
Figure 51-Engine Front Cover Exploded View
1. Apply 1050026 sealer or equivalent to outside diameter of seal .
2. Using Tool J-5154, install oil seal as shown in Figure 50. Tighten until .005" feeler gauge will fit between front cover and tool .
3. Install crankshaft pulley and harmonic balancer. Refer to "Crankshaft Pulley" and "Harmonic Balancer" earlier in this section.
4. Install belts. Refer to "Belt Tension" earlier in this section.
5. Lower motor home.

That National nitrile seal is the one that went bad on me due to warm oil. I would defiantly go to the trouble of locating the SKF C/R 19923 seal as it is not made of nitrile. As far as removing the old seal once you have the dampener pulley removed the easy way is to punch a small hole in the metal shell and screw a small slide hammer into it .A couple of slide knocks and it is out. A harbor Freight tool would work OK.
