Hey all,
Well, i've decided that if i can get my price, i will part with my
much-upgraded '76 Birchhaven, rather than rebuild it myself.
http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/rvs/3321201355.html
In the ad, its listed with a few different price options,
depending upon how much, if any, of the current solar and sine wave inverter installation you want included.
In the ad, there's a link to a webpage with lots more pictures, and long list of recent upgrades.
Also, thanks to Bruce and Bob and Miguel, i've gathered together most of the parts needed for the rebuild.
Yep, its a project, and requiring some aluminum welding, but also a good opportunity to build it back the way
you want it!
After getting hit this past June, and already having my hands full with our Eleganza,
its been a tough decision whether to keep it as a fun long-term project, or to sell it and simplify,
and these prices are my breaking point. If nobody picks it up in the next couple weeks,
well then my plan is to drive it to Puerto Penasco Mexico and make a winter's project out of it!
Happy to answer any questions, on-list or off-list, email or phone call (9am to 9pm PST please),
thanks much
Greg 323 377 7233

Just letting everybody know, i've dropped the price a bit and updated my ad…
http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/rvs/3397582193.html
Also, considering all the parts that have been gathered, i've received a revised quote for the welding, bodywork and paint, from RA Auto, located right next to Miguel's MGM GMC:
If the interior cabinets and kitchen counter are removed to give the tig-welder access from the inside, then they will do all the welding and bodywork for $4000… less than half the original quote this summer (and this is almost as good a price as i was hoping to get down in Mexico).
So if anybody's looking for a good running 23 footer to customize to their liking, I think this '76 Birchhaven is a very viable option. I've been borderline about wanting to keep it, and this new price of $2500 (or $5000 with full solar) represents my breaking point :)
Many more details about the coach are available by clicking the link in the ad… (please note, the 4k Onan is no longer included.. part of the reason for the price-drop to $2500)
OK, thanks...
Greg

If ANYONE attempts welding inside a GMC, be VERY careful! One of the most
talented GMCers "ever" (a couple of his creations are now owned by Bob
Drewes & Tom Whitton) began work on a 23' a couple of years before his
death. A careless welder let a single spark hit the foam insulation. The
coach was a smoldering heap by the time the fire department arrived.

Duly noted Ken, Thanks for the warning… Miguel had also warned me about the severity of the prep work…
