Jim,
No the last message did not make it to the net and I think I know why. I use Microsoft Office for my emails, when I clicked on
"Reply" I noticed that the reply came up in HTML format. I wanted to check the first message but I had deleted it. I suspect the
reason you have problems getting messages to the GMCnet from your Sprint HTC phone is that it sends them out as HTML. I've changed
the format of this message to Plain Text so it should make it; however, you know what cyberspace is like!
I reiterate my agreement with you and in my opinion the engine being discussed would have to have the compression ratio lowered to
point where the engine was comfortable running on 87 octane which could require replacing the pistons. Also the cam would have to be
replaced with one for an RV to lower the torque band.
The reason I brought up my good fortune in finding the Paterson Stage II engine for $2000 is that they sell for around $7500 and are
a fully blueprinted and balanced engine that Dick PERSONALLY builds. When I tore it down to check what damage had occurred due to
water ingress every time I touched a part I found that the highest quality parts were used and an unbelievable ATTENTION TO DETAIL
was used when building the engine. That's what will keep an engine built for a GMC running for years!
I know you've gone round and round with a number of different engine builders and you are fortunate that Drew is building yours now
as I am sure he puts the same effort into building an engine as Dick does!

Did that last post I did about that Mondello motor come onto the net? For some reason I did not see it.
The point I wanted to stress is $6000 ($5500 in my case) is a really good price for a purpose built motor ready to go. That
Mondello motor is a $8500-12,000 build. Our roller cam 455 purpose built motor is $5500 in long block which is a great price. Some
might think about you finding a motor for $2000 and think that's what a quality motor is worth-- that's simply not true but I fight
this every day! That Mondello motor is a performance motor in one direction, we really need a performance motor too but in a
different direction. You and I say it's "over the top" but others may still think it's what they want-- you do not want a land
speed record motor in your driver motorhome.

No need to apologize I agree, it’s overkill big time for a GMC just like the Caddy 500 that Jerry Potter built or the twin turbo
Caddy that the “Ornamental” built for his GMC.
I got lucky and got my hands on a Paterson Stage II engine with 5000 miles on it for $2000. That included a rebuilt trans and final
drive (only a 3.07).
Unfortunately water got into the cylinders and there’s some minor pitting. I spoke with Dick about it and I’m just going to feather
the edges of the corrosion spots with some 400 grit wet or dry and that’s that.

There are several things including compression that would need to be modified to put that motor into a motorhome and it live.
I am working with a smart guy who used those head and found the head gauled between the 2 middle cylinders. The oil pan and intake
will not work nor will the headers fit. I have seen many people try a Holly carb to no luck. If it has IN piston, I feel the top
ring is too close to the top of the piston for the sustained hammering use we give it. If you must use high octave gas , bring a
fat wallet! You need torque at low rpm with slosh gas to be an effective power plant to go long distances.
Sorry but I feel that's a great motor and you know its built well but its the wrong combination for the GMC, my opinion

Mondello sells a head gasket that is 0.051 thick to "reduce compression a little bit." I wonder how much that gasket would bring the
CR down?
