We're on the road about halfway through a 25 day trip through Utah and Arizona. Currently about 40 miles north of Phoenix and the toilet has developed a serious leak.
I'd like to shut off the water to the toilet and just "flush" it with a pitcher of water until I can get home and deal with it but there doesn't seem to be any kind of shut-off valve. Is that right or am I looking in the wrong place?

That is right. You'll have to come up with a cap for it.
