I bought all new fixtures for Pheboe. (from princessauto for 5.99 each) they have one switch for each light and look very nice in the couch. however when installing I did the hallway last as I was afraid the closet door would hit it (it doesn't) so I pulled the plug out and cut the couch side of the plug off (BTW I have 4 OEM working and in good shape lights including the plug avail open to offers)
wired the light to the two wires and thought that's funny it didn't light. flipped both switches and nothing. grabbed test light. nothing.
grabbed meter roughly 13 volts (I am plugged into the house) hooked light back to wires no light
checked bedroom left rear lights nothing on right side. check galley. it is OK
check bathroom. nothing
fridge works.
check all fuses -with meter- all good. double check that there is contact on the wire leaving the 12 volt distribution panel. all good.
take fixture to spare 12 volt battery it lights. try test light it is dead.
rewire fixture to MH and it won"t light?
I have power at the wires?!
what am I missing?
it got cold (45f/7c) and dark.

there wouldn't be a connector hidden in the ceiling would there?

Once you replace everything that is attached to something else. It will all be fixed.

If those new lights are led's, they are polarity conscious. Reverse the
leads and try again. JWIWD.

OK so it turns out that the old fixture has been acting as the ground for the bathroom lights and the right rear reading light the recirculating toilet and the hall light. If I touch the black wire (ground) to the roof support that the light is attached to then the lights come on. if I take a working test light and hook to the white wire and touch the frame it lights between the white and black wire nothing. however if I connect the meter between the white and black wire it reads 13 volts.

so is it OK to just "add" a jumper from the black wire to the frame so my lights work?

To me it looks like the black wire that is supposed to be ground is not doing its thing. anybody know where the physical location of the ground should be? I see that these are tied together on the wiring diagram but I don't know where it would be in the physical coach.

Oh and James they are not LED's It will be many years before I save up enough to buy LED's
I did have the correct wire colours anyway but good thought.

Finally found the ground issue.

Turns out that in 1977 who ever the person was that installed the wiring harness in my couch was not feeling well. they did not tighten the screw all the way into the frame structure for the above mentioned circuit. the thing has been sort of attached all of it life.

I found the spot by taking the bathroom medicine cabinet out. little screw was just to the left of an easy reachable spot. would have been easier to have removed the entire fridge cabinet and get at it from there.

I also found that they had attached another ground to the frame but did not clean the sealant off where the body joins (fiberglass to aluminium. it was not a good ground.

Now my lights don't dim when I flush the toilet (recirculating type)

Now to find the propane leak
