I am installing a new thermostat. It is the 3 legs type. I do not see any arrows or dimple that goes to the front. I can't see anything different anywhere that maybe should go to the front.
I have installed many thermostats over the years and never knew that sometimes they had to be orientated a certain way.
Maybe an explanation of what and why would help. Anybody care to explain?

Wayne,
I have never worried about the top spoke orientation of the thermostat on our generation of engines.
The coil part goes down into the intake manifold, it opens downward.
Have you tested it in a pan of water with a cooking thermometer?
Make sure it's working correctly, opening temp and closing temp. Or do the job twice.

The factory manual, sections 6k, has information on thermostat orientation. I don't know if this still applies to the thermostats available today but GM thought enough about the subject to give it a writeup in the maintenance manual.

Steve,
The Robertshaw thermostat has a small dimple on the outer ring that should point toward the radiator. Most of the others do not have the three point suspension so it may not make any difference.
on them.
