new Delco ignition module [message #187372] |

I'm going to purchase a new Delco ignition module but it seems that the D1906 modules are only supplied with the white dot. As I recall the yellow dot modules are preferred. Is this a problem?

I agree with Gene.
The yellow part of this is that the pickup and the coil have a yellow wire. The problem was that the cars were having a starting problem because of the starter wires being on the "wrong side" and causing a field that confused the pickup. So GM reversed the polarity of the coil and pickup. The pickup usually has a yellowish plug on it that goes to the module or a tag that is yellow. (I have never seen the tag but relay what I have been told)
As far as I know the module doesn't know the difference.

Gene is correct, the blk-red-yellow on the ignition coil wiring and
yellow connector body or yellow tie on the pick-up coil wiring is what
your are concerned about. The ignition module doesn't care and any
markings on it are not important. A mismatch on the coil and pickup
can create erratic timing and hard starting.

Great. Thanks guys for the clarification. My current module has a yellow dot and hence my confusion. I'm sure (hoping?) that my confusion isn't age related.
