Sean,
In reference to picture 1 the connector is a red wire with black
connector. It appears that your coach was painted a light color and
the area under the hood got a lot of overspray. You probably can
clean most of that off with acetone and a soft rag. On my 75 Avion it
has a fusible link plugged into that point and runs off to something.
If it is not being used don't worry about it, it is not hurting
anything. My 78 stretch doesn't have anything connected to it
either. If you put a meter and check it to ground you may find it is
still hot (12 VDC) again no problem. It might be a good point to get
12 VDC in the future.
As for picture number 2, your are correct it is half of a fuse
holder. Have you check and see if it has 12VDC to ground. It is not
a factory fuse holder, and apparently the other half is not important!
The PO from what I can see in your picture has added some extra wiring
using those blue snap connectors. Those are truly junk and you should
try and remove them for a more permanent connection.

Not sure what the connector is for, but it looks like there is a splice in the
black wire that is right to the left of the thick red wire and the splice is

High speed fan power. (All three of my coaches have this.. I believe it should
have a fusible link.)
I would be more concerned about what looks like a bare twisted wire "connection"
shown just to the left in the picture. It looks to be between the un-fused hot
connector block on the firewall and the horn relay. I think it is replacing
what should be a fusible link. VERY dangerous... looks like you PO was an
electrical idiot and did not know it.

I do not know... what doesn't work? (My '73 has this (disconnected)
also but neither the '77 or '78 has it.)

I can't seem to locate this on my wiring diagram. Can you tell me
where the other end is physically connected, or perhaps post a picture
of what you have?

Sean,
On the chassis wiring diagram, look at the wire running from the alternator
output to the center terminal of the isolator (Red 10 g). Spliced into
that wire is a Red 12g which terminates with an arrow toward "X".
Now scan vertically down to near the bottom of the diagram to find the
other "X". You'll find that leads through a Green Fusible Link and a Red
12g with dbl White stripe to the heater relay.
I think that IS your high blower connector, but the color of the wire is
the essential clue.
With all the wiring problems you've got, I think you should contact my son
for a large wiring diagram:

On both our '73 and '75, the square connector attached to
the big red wire goes to a fusible link that connects to the
red-with-white-stripe wire.
There's another square connector attached to a black wire
that goes to the triple connector on the upper relay,
which is marked "htr" in your picture. But that looks
like it's hooked up in your coach.
I'm guessing a previous owner blew up the fusible
link so replaced it with a fuse. Don't know what
the red/white stripe wire goes to though since it
goes back into the harness, but the wiring diagram
might help (or not. sometimes I still can't figure
it out even with the diagram).
I think the blower wires come in on the other side
of the a/c box. There's a four-wire plug with yellow,
blue, light blue, and brown wires. The yellow wire is what
you disconnect to get the darned blower fan to not run all
the time in some model years.
hope this helps,

Actually that is the resistor package in the driver's side of the heater box. It is used to change the voltage applied to the fan for all of the fan speeds other than high. (High comes straight from the alternator output, before the isolator, meaning it will be a volt or two above the normal voltage found at the battery.)

Had the same find on mine yesterday and found no voltage on the connector you showed. I took the red/white wire from the blower relay ran it through a 30amp circuit breaker and got my power from the terminal stud marked vehicle battery positive. Now I have high speed. If someone knows a reason not to use a circuit breaker let me know.

Ok, that makes a lot of sense, and I think my two wires are two pieces
of the same puzzle.
The fuse holder is on the red-with-double-white wire. I checked for
continuity between the fuse holder and the red-with-double-white wire
on the relay connector, and BEEP!
My wiring diagram doesn't show a fusible link going to
red-double-white, but it *does* show a 30-amp fuse.
So, I think the answer to the question "what do these two wires
connect to" is: each other, via the missing 30-amp fuse:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/questions/p46169-mystery-solved.html
Does that make sense?

Sean,
Sorry I mislead you about the fusible link: I neglected to read "1973" in
your signature block and automatically referred to my '76 wiring diagram,
by which time the fuse had been replaced with the fusible link.
Glad you figured it out in spite of my "help". :-)

No apologies necessary, you were actually very helpful with this, and
with my alternator problems. Thanks again!

Looks like you did good on that one Ken. I would assume it wasn't uncommon for that 30 amp fuse to blow under certain conditions so it was replaced with a fuseible link? I would think a fusible link or a 30 amp circuit breaker may be a better choice then the fuse and still give good protection .

Roy,
You're probably right. The starting surge current of that blower motor
will probably fatigue a fuse pretty quickly, especially when the bearings
begin to dry out a little -- or a twig gets sucked in through the fresh air
inlet. I'd guess they used the fusible link rather than redesign the
entire electrical harness to add another slot to the fuse box; and, they
probably didn't want a CB hanging from wires under the hood. All a big
WAG, of course. :-)

If were to replace the missing fuse with a fusible link, then what
gauge should I use?
It would connect a 12g wire to a 14g wire, so something smaller? 16g?
