Folks, I've read a lot of good about the Honda's, but some troubling posts about when they fail, they are toast. At least I can keep the Onan running and find parts.
Is $1,200 for a running but unknown hours good for one that also "leaks a tiny bit of oil?"

Looked around on craigslist... I found the one you are talking about. Compaired to others (see below) it looks like a good deal.

Honda EV6010's have good rep's. Look at it, if it runs good, go for it.
if you do, you might like this:

We did not know what we had until it was gone. The Honda EV-6010 was a commercial duty generator and could be rebuilt over and over. We have a supplier who only supplies and deals with the Honda generators specifically the 40 and 6010 units. Parts are very available and in that there were @ 500,000 of them produced, you can find one in usable condition pretty easily.
As far as the price, that is a good price, it can be totally updates like new and you will still be way below what it would cost to buy and maintain a new Onan which I would not do on a bet! I delivered a coach last weekend with over $150K invested and yes, it sported a Honda EV-6010. They loved the coach and the generator ran flawless all the way to Baton Rouge and my suspect is it will service them well for many years.
Do what you want but do not count out the Honda EV-6010 just because they no longer produce them-- they no longer produce the GMC either!
