Kim, we appreciate you posting it as soon as you could. Gives folks a year to make plans.

Ten-Tec is in Sevierville, TN.
Electrovoice used to have a factory across the street on Dolly Parton Parkway. I did a lot of work there back in the day.
Al Kahn K4FW (sk), was a founder of EV and of TenTec.
He scared the living stuff out of me driving like a maniac while working CW in his Cadillac at about 25 wpm. That was nearly 30 years ago.

For aviation buffs there is a unique attraction, Aviation Cadet World, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, about 70 miles SW of Branson. The attraction is dedicated to the 1/2 million pilots and navigators trained though the aviation cadet program which was ended in 1961. Graduates include such aviators as Lindberg, Doolittle, and LeMay. The museum includes airplanes, simulators, barracks replicas and artifacts. I haven't been to the place, but no doubt will if I should make it to the rally in Branson.

Once again we feel like the redheaded stepchild. Only a week between
Branson, MO and Coos Bay, OR rallies. Sure seems like something could have
been worked out better so those on the left coast that wanted to go to both
would have had an easier time of it. Or is GMCMI only for those east of the
Rockies?
In the past we have ventured to Rayne, LA, Mobile, AL, Goshen, IN, Rapid
City, SD, and Montgomery, TX to go to GMCMI conventions, so we aren't
allergic to traveling, but to banzai back just isn't fair or fun. And at
least in this case, GMCWS posted their dates first. Really starting to feel
unwanted.
Doesn't seem like it would have hurt to had another week or two between the
two events. The GMCWS rally can't really be moved later as the weather
plays a factor, so why can't GMCMI be a couple of weeks earlier?
Yes, we are whining again. We miss seeing our GMCMI friends.

When I was alerted to the facilities of the Branson KOA nearly a year ago I
recommended it to Kim. They do have a convention center that can seat up to
600 (theater seating). They also have a pavilion or two with electricity and
ceiling fans. The shower facilities are newly remodeled so it should be
quite an upgrade from Amana on that one. The location, of course, is pretty
good when taking everything into consideration.
My preference would have been later than September 20-26. But, for what all
is involved in securing the time commitment from the Branson KOA, this may
have been the only opportunity. I'm guessing that may have been the reality
of the situation.
Another reality is what Matt Colie and Ken Henderson have reminded us of --
there's a great gap between owners 400 miles east of the Rockies and
westward and those 400 miles west of the Mississippi and eastward. There
aren't many owners in between and, as Ken pointed out, probably very few
facilities.
Western States has a reason for existence and needs strong support for great
rallies. Motorhomes International (the name isn't quite so accurate,
perhaps) is for dealing with the those on the right side of the "great
divide".
A summer rally? I think it's time Eastern States start thinking out of the
box and seriously look at a summer rally. If they did so then at least they
wouldn't be trying for the same timeframe as MI and might actually draw some
younger owners with families willing to make a rally a part of their summer
vacation.

The GMC Great Lakers September 2013 rally is the week before (12, 13 ,
14 & 15) at the Remax Balloon Festival in Midland Mi. This rally has
been locked in since early May of this year. So our members will have
to leave right after to go to the GMCMI Branson rally. (800 miles)
This might hurt our attendance little bit, but we will see. Never
been to Branson and looking forward to being there! Would love to see
a rally in the Colorado area again.

Bert & Faye,
On October 2nd Jerry Work sent the following message in to the GMCnet
For all of you looking for a great west coast rally, Sharon and I are hosting a joint GMC Cascaders/GMCWS rally in beautiful Coos
Bay, Oregon the first week in October 2013. We will take over the whole of the new RV Resort at the Mill Casino, Hotel and RV Resort
plus both ball rooms in the hotel. A 50 to 60 person Yurt at the RV area will serve as "social central" with vendor parking
immediately adjacent. The meals will be staff catered in one side of the ball room while seminars and displays will occupy the other
side of the ball room. In addition to the full hookups in the very spacious RV Resort there will also be overflow free dry camping
right next to the RV area for those wishing to come early, stay late, or who just prefer dry camping. Many things planned including
a tour with wine and food sampling of the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute. Coos Bay is roughly equal in distance from all parts of
the region served by both of these GMC clubs from Canada to Mexico and the Rocky Mtns west. We would love to have lots of you "flat
landers" join us for what promises to be a real Pacific ocean treat with fall colors that many say rival New England. Read all about
it at GMCWS.ORG and soon also on the GMC Cascaders web site. PS, if we are really lucky, Fleet Week at Treasure Island in the middle
of SF Bay will be the second week in October next year so you could do two neat events in one swing (Fleet Week 2012 is the first
week in October this year, but 2013 is not yet scheduled).
On October 3rd Emery Stora responded with the following:
Please tell us more, Jerry.
How many days are planned for the rally? Can it accommodate 200 or so coaches for a rally that would last 6 nights? Do they have
buildings that can handle our seminars? Can we have the buildings for 5 or 6 days prior to the rally to set up? What is the cost per
night for the camping? How many meals are planned? What is the cost for the meals and the rooms? 50 or 60 people in a social area
seems way too small for a large group of 300 to 400 people. Are other areas also available?
You might want to pass the information on to the GMCM convention manager, Kim Weeks. I am sure that she would have a lot of other
questions.
Emery Stora
MY COMMENT: I assume these questions were asked to see if GMCMI could "join the party."
On October 3rd Jerry responded with:
Hi Emory,
The details are all spelled out on the GMCWS.ORG web site and will soon also be listed on the GMC Cacaders web site as well. A quick
summary is that we will take over exclusive use of the 100+ full hookup spaces in the RV resort plus as much of the free dry camping
that is immediately adjacent to the RV park as we need. We will also have exclusive use of both hotel ball rooms (one large ball
room with a divider that can be pulled across to make two rooms). One will be where our hotel staff catered meals will be served and
will be the home for the alternate seminar track. The other ball room will be home for our primary seminar track plus indoor display
space as needed. Both spaces will be exclusively ours for the six days and five nights of the rally with 24 hour per day security. I
did not inquire about use prior to the rally but the folks there are very accommodating. FMCA NW Region did a rally there earlier
this summer (they took the 100+ full hook up spaces plus put many, many coaches in dry camping) and both the FMCA folks and the
attendees raved about the place and the attitudes of the people who work there.
The Yurt at the RV area is just a place to centralize our daytime and evening social activities and it can also be pressed into
other service if we need it. Weather the first week in October is usually as it is right now - sunny and warm days with cool nights.
Rain or drizzle is not uncommon, but usually holds off until about mid to late October. The vendor parking will be right around this
Yurt space so the vendors can be sure to have lots of folks around all the time. If the weather does not cooperate then we can move
the vendor displays indoors into the ball rooms as well. if we needed more indoor space there are five or six more meeting rooms of
various sizes in the hotel that could be rented.
Attendees will have free on-demand use of the shuttle busses to take them anywhere they want to go within the Coos Bay area. Call
and the bus will pick you up. Call again to have them bring you back home. Neat. Attendees will also have free key access to the
indoor swimming pool, the exercise room and the two outdoor hot tubs overlooking all the boat traffic on Coos Bay. A special room
rate of $89 (IIRC) is available for those wanting to stay in the hotel. There is so much to do and see along the Oregon coast that
one could make a memorable trip just driving from one end of the coast to the other with Coos Bay about one third of the way up from
the CA border. If it works out that Fleet Week (ships from around the world strutting their stuff in SF Bay plus the Blue Angels
right over head of where we park on Treasure Island) gets scheduled for the second week in Oct. next year it would really be a
memorable time for everyone.
I have negotiated tiered pricing that should fit most any budget or need. A two person coach with full hookups, all the meals and
full rally facilities $360 to $370, two person coach in dry camping, all meals and full rally facilities $260 to $270, one person
coach with full hookups, all meals and full rally facilities $260 to $270, one person coach in dry camping, all meals and full rally
facilities $160 to $170. See the .pdf file on GMCWS.ORG for details on meals, tours, etc. We will also offer a weekender special for
those members of any GMC club that can only be with us for Friday and Saturday nights, two person coach dry camping, full rally
facilities, dinner Friday and breakfast Saturday plus the opportunity to join us for the Saturday Culinary School tour, wine and
food event. One night will be "on your own dining" in one of the many restaurants associated with the hotel and casino plus great
food in Coos Bay itself. Saturday night will be a big "surprise" party at the RV park that I will talk more about later. The hotel
staff will cater three hot dinners, four Continental breakfasts and one hot breakfast in the ball room.
Should be a blast and not too far for you now that you are in your new CO digs (hint, hint). I might even try to press you into
service giving a seminar or two!
Jerry
MY COMMENTS:
Copied from the Mill Park RV website:
Quote:
Set in a tranquil, park-like waterfront location along the Oregon Coast, The Mill RV Park offers 102 level sites, including 65
slanted 68-foot pull-throughs, with full hookups and cable TV. http://www.themillcasino.com/accommodations/sitemap.cfm
Unquote:
With only 102 sites there is no way GMCMI could join, I have only attended five GMCMI Conventions and all of them were held at
locations that could provide water and power to all the sites. IIRC the GMCMI convention in Santa Rosa had two hundred coaches
attend!
MY OBSERVATIONS:
With all due respect in my opinion who published their dates first is irrelevant; a number of people have been asking the various
clubs to try and coordinate their rallies so people can attend them.
I HAVE SEVERAL QUESTIONS:
1) Are the "decision makers" in the various clubs considering what other clubs are doing rally wise?
2) Did GMCWS / GMC Cascaders contact GMCMI when they STARTED planning the Coos Bay rally?
3) Did GMCMI contact GMCWS / GMC Cascaders when they STARTED planning the Branson Convention?
As far as Helen and I are concerned we might not be able to attend either event! We make loops out of Houston and each year they
move a bit westward.
We arrive in the USA the beginning of July and leave the middle of October. Next years tour will head west over to New Mexico and
then north up to Idaho west to Washington then south down to California and then back to Houston.
Considering our route plan it's going to be damn hard to be in Coos Bay the first week in October or Branson the week before in
September.
Regards,
Rob M.

I'll answer from my perspective as president of gmcws:
1) We are trying. Kim is keeping a calendar and will alert us if there is a conflict. I gather that a week in between is a conflict for some people but it is probably not as bad as being on the same days.
2) No but we did warn Kim what we were thinking (early October in Oregon) as soon as we were thinking anything.
3) No.
