I had the GMC in the shop over the weekend for an oil change, and the tech mentioned that it looks like the engine has an intake manifold leak. There is some coolant that has leaked around the rear of the intake manifold. Can coolant get mixed in with the oil via an intake manifold leak, or vice versa? Is it something that I need to immediately address?

Bryan, there is a heater hose connection on the pass side rear of the
intake manifold. There are pipe threads in the manifold that match with a
hose nipple. If that nipple or the hose clamp or the hose at that point is
defective, loose, et al, you could have a water leak. If the manifold
gasket is bad between the head and the manifold, you could also have a
coolant leak that could possibly leak coolant into the intake valley and
the oil pan, but that is not likely. Possible, yes, but not likely.

Well at least it got sent.(grin) I typed it out on my desktop, and a few
minutes later I checked it on my new 4g android cell phone and it said
draft, so I sent it from my phone. Dirty rotten modern technology, ya can,t
trust the stuff. I can't tell you how many times Ms. GARMIN steered us up
some cow pasture lane in Canada. What the heck, Dwayne always wanted to see
downtown Manhattan and the Holland tunnel.

That was quite the adventure through downtown NY. saw alot would not have if Ms Garmin did not take us. While leaving New Orleans she wanted to take me across some ferry (note to self set to avoid ferries). We turned around and went across a toll bridge. The nice young lady said 2 axles 1 dollar (maybe a GMCer in waiting)

Glenn, Judy and I were sorry that we missed a once in a lifetime event.
Have you been to Jim Bounds to get your new windshields yet?
I asked Judy to marry me yesterday, she said yes. I am a happy guy. Hope to
see you down the road, maybe for the route 66 rolling rally in 2014.

Gene,

I was making believe I was JimK! ;-)

What I was going to suggest to Bryan was to ask the mechanic for more specifics as to the location of the leak. Jim is correct,
however, if there is a coolant leak into the oil it needs to be corrected promptly.

Regards,
Rob M.

Before loosening any bolts, send an oil sample to Blackstone Labs. If
there's no antifreeze in the oil, the manifold's probably not leaking.

After you have done everything and are absolutely convinced that you have a coolant leak into the oil, spend $25.00 and send a coolant sample to Blackstone, of a place of your choice, for an analysis before going to all of the effort of pulling the manifold.
