I want to replace the original porch light with something more modern
and LED-ish.

Haven't really found a compact version of what I think I'm looking for.
Applied has this but no dimensions and not sure I like the style.

Anyone care to recommend something?

Kelvin, we can get two light strips in one of those. I think they came on Royals as standard. I have the normal 3x7 rectangle with clear lense. One of the high power strips in it. It is bright.

I'll bet there is more room on a 260 than a 230. I don't have room for
a 3 x 6, which seems to be kinda standard...

Really? Wow. Well, if you buy the one noted you can use two strips in it or see if you can find one high powered strips. The high powered one is best.

Kelvin,

For me a led is too bright and is annoying to the people next to you at a camp ground. Almost like a street light. All I wanted is a light that is bright enough to find my door key and find the lock and step. I don't need a reading lamp. I have a bow light from a boat and put in a clear lens. Works for me.

Kevin,
When I bought my LED clearance lights I bought an extra one to replace my broken porch light. I use a yellow one for that. I can take a picture of it and send it to you if you want to see it in action. Incidentally it bolts right in.

Kelvin,

That's the OEM light for an Avion! If you're not in a hurry I'll measure it up and send you the dimensions when I get back to Sydney
the 24th of October.

Rob M.

That's the same assembly as the floor lighting. I recently replaced the bulbs in ours with LED boards. They each have 6 5050 LEDs and are way too bright even down on the floor - if your eyes pass over them you're blinded and have to wait for the spots to clear. I have some LED strip lights (also 5050) so I'm going to try a single segment of 3 LEDs and see if that's any better - or as a last resort just buy a 2-pin LED and drop down to a single.

I guess my point is, be careful of which LEDs you use in the porch light because it could definitely be too bright!

G'day,

IIRC that fixture takes a standard 1041 bulb - simple fix, just buy a LED replacement bulb. It will be bright enough to see your
lock and not disturb the neighbors. They cost twice noting on eBay.

BTW those cheap bulbs aren't worth a damn for anything else! Been there done that!

Regards,
Rob M.

That's what I did (the LED boards are wired to a BA15s base - since I was replacing them throughout the coach I went with boards as they're a little cheaper) - just saying, it's too bright to look at directly with only 6 5050 LEDs when it's dark without affecting your vision. Definitely recommend 3258 LEDs and maybe less of them. Smile Otherwise it might be like a searchlight coming from the side of the coach! Unless you want that, of course.

Megan,

I used the ones that have the LED's arranged around a central axis and since the light emitted by LED's is directional only one
maybe two were pointed "outwards" and they weren't that bright.

I grabbed one of those too when I was ordering but didn't test it in the floor lights. Maybe I'll try that one! With the boards, all of the LEDs face forward so the light is very concentrated. Great in the bathroom lights, not so great in the floor lights.

I did the same thing as Meghan (the 6-LED panels) but my light fixtures are almost built with frosted lenses, so the light is well-diffused, and no harder on the eyes than they were with incandescent bulbs eating an amp and a half each. The couple fixtures I have with clear lenses are hard to look at, but then so are mirrors. Wink

I've actually been thinking about frosting the inside of the lenses, but then I don't want to since they're original. What a dilemma...

It's roughly 2" x 5"
That measurement was made by holding my thumb and index finger a bit
apart, while remembering the ones I removed from the panel on the floor
below the sink. Exact dimensions are "yea by so".

Meghan, how about just cutting a small(ish) piece of opaque white plastic and park it between the clear lens and the LED panel? That should give you essentially the same light output as the frosted diffusers, but will still look original (and can be returned to "really original" with nothing more than an old-school lamp and taking the diffuser panel out.
