Got to thinking, I know! Not only dangerous but maybe suicidal.

How bout a vendor's rally? Specifically vendors and presentations
held in the middle of the country in the middle of the Summer. Not
only GMC specialty vendors but those other companies supplying items
such as tow bars, awnings, etc. Might even get a representation from
FMCA.

All GMC clubs invited to participate along with our distant cousins
who enjoy the fun of the Toronado drive train. Revcon, Travoy, etc!

Maybe even a special web site to pre-order parts to be brought to the
rally for purchase and/or installation even for those who don't have a
web site to hawk their wares now. A one place for all parts or links
to those who have web sites already.

Important also would be off site rooms available for those who are
grounded by their GMC's at the time.

This out of the box enough for you, Byron? {:>)

If you are thinking of including Toro based SOB's, I would call it thinking INSIDE the box! Twisted Evil

.
..
...
.... Not that I think including them in "normal' rallies is that bad of an idea. I kind of like the early, smaller, flat nosed ones: <http://www.aircraft-electrician.4t.com/photo3.html>

Roger,

I like it when you put your thinking cap on. That's a great idea.

Plan it for somewhere just east and south of Gilette, Wyoming (or maybe
Sheridan area) in the latter part of June and it would fly. The reason I
say that is the tow bar, awning, etc. folks will already be at Gilette for
the FMCA gathering. It'd be easy for them to saunter on over to the next
rally.

More out of the box stuff -- better yet, work with FMCA for group parking
(which means caravan in for some) and hold some of the seminars as a part
of their schedule -- kill two birds with one stone. The tow and awning
stuff will be there. The two seminar always includes reps from three
companies at a minimum. Even the Onan dudes show up. FMCA is a great event
unless you let yourself be intimidated. I'm quite sure our FMCA reps would
support that move.

Roger,

This time I'm making a real serious reply. I'm thinking outside of the box.

There may be one problem with your thinking -- the vendor issue.

If a vendor isn't retired and actually needs to sell product to earn a
living then the vendor will be very careful about which rally to attend.
The vendor wants a large audience so that he/she/company actually has a
chance to make something off the 3% that'll buy something. This helps pay
for the trip. Trade shows (rallies) for most vendors is a necessary evil.
You attend to get exposure but shake your head when you try to figure out
what the "return on investment" (cost of getting there and back vs sales
that generate income). Generally, it's a wash at best.

If a vendor is retired or in the business as a hobby (has another source
of dependable income) he/she/company attends rallies for different
reasons. The reasons include getting together with friends while getting
to take the expense off of taxes via the annual filing of Schedule C. For
that vendor the need to justify ROI is generally very low since getting on
in the GMC to see friends far outweighs the real business concern.

Years ago JimB's accountant told him to quit running to rallies because
they couldn't be cost justified. Vendors that have "real jobs" have to
look at the same issue -- can the trip be cost-justified in addition to
spending vacation away from the job.

I think all vendors feel welcome at rallies/conventions. That isn't the
issue. They're also always welcome to give presentations. Feeling like
"king" or feeling like the old, yellow dog that just walked in off the
street has nothing to do with the reason why vendors do or don't show up
at our events.

Not related to that is the issue an inventive entrepreneur faces in the
GMC arena. This typical vendor has to look realistically at the issue of
liability insurance. It's a darn shame that our litigation-happy society
squelches or endangers the delivery of great products. Cottage industries
have a hard way to go in our society.
