With the new stainless steel tank, and heat exchanger, should the heat exchanger just be inserted into it's spot, with the steel-to-steel contact? Or, should one use some kind of grease or thermal paste or something?
This tank replacement project is turning into a bigger one than I expected.
Thanks in advance.

When I replaced my tank I just slid the heat exchanger out of the old and
into the new....and it has worked too well over the years!
