Any thoughts on this 29'stretch? I sure like the back bedroom.
Not a seamless stretch job IMHO. Appears everything was added behind the rear wheels.
Since I have limited knowledge about mechanics, I sorta need to to go by what I see. This would probably work...if I was in the market.

Stick,
Found it! Item 261106189121
This is a no reserve, so someone is going to get a GMC coach for way
under value give away price. This coach even with the poor headliner
condition should sell in the the high teen's to low 20"S. With a
headliner replacement, front seat replacement (those seats were so
uncomfortable) , AC upgrade and colors to suite the new owner this
would be a great coach.

You like the 84" rear beds! ;-)
I am of the opinion that unless you move the bogies having an additional three feet hanging out over the rear wheels ain't something
I'd like to deal with.
I have torn up more 3" dump fittings with Double Trouble (the latest last week) that I intend to figger out a way to get it up
higher under the coach.

OK - couple of issues here. Rob says he wouldn't want to deal with the extra 3 feet hanging behind the bogies. Are we talking about handling issues here? The sewer pipe can't be too much of an issue. Looks like it has been on there a long time. How about a macerator?
I noticed the riveted section also. Is this the "wrong" way to do this or just another way. I wonder if it couldn't be made to look a little better with some creative body work. I know there are better ways to stretch a coach.
If I ever do buy another coach, it'll probably be a Royale rear bath. The reason this coach intrigues me is that you have a big bedroom as well as a couch in the living room. Throw out that dinette and put some comfortable chairs in its place and you have a nice seating area. The Royale is "all kitchen" up front.
The owner has answered some questions on ebay. I'm going to make some calls tomorrow.

I'm with Rob on the "look" with regards to the balance. However, in the
replies the owner was always careful to raise the rear when in doubt.
There are as many stretches done this way as there were done right (moved
the bogies back). However, none of the owners I've talked with acted like
the lack of rearward movement was a problem. The Buskirk style was
logical. The addition to the rear may just be cosmetic only. However,
since you're looking for low price and long beds, this is the one for you.
If there aren't any bad humps between your place and Henderson's,
definitely make a go for it.
By the way, the seller seems very upfront and knowledgable with his
comments. He mentions the right names.

Well, Byron - are you saying I'm a "tall cheapskate?"
There is, indeed, at least one great place on which to hang up a GMC. Don't ask me how I know. First day, first trip. Learned my lesson. I don't want to rely on Ken too much, after all he has to keep his on the road.

Hmmpf! At one end of my short street there's a BAD swale where it dead
ends into the cross street. Stick's first visit here with his GMC was a
minor disaster. He hadn't yet learned to control ride height and the coach
had oversized rear tires. The combination of those resulted in the coach
sitting on the pavement in that intersection with a punctured air bag. And
a frustrated Stick with no way to go anywhere. It not being my coach, I
took the easy way out and just MADE it move -- full throttle. :-) If there
was any damage, it wasn't visible. Ross, forget you read this!
Aside from that incident, my 40' diesel pusher probably didn't have as much
rear overhang as a 30" rear-stretched GMC, and probably had 12" more ground
clearance. I drug the trailer hitch on the highway pavement in a hairpin
turn on one of the approach roads to the Blue Ridge Parkway. That was only
the most dramatic of many scrapes during the 9 years we had that coach. I
personally wouldn't consider a rear-only stretch, regardless of handling
consequences, or lack thereof.

Aside from the strange looks and the possible tail drag does anyone have any comments on how that the extra apendage out the back effects handling? I just measured mine and there is 7ft from rear axle center to back of bumper the neighbors class C sticks out 10.5 ft. and it's accepted in the rving community as the norm. Also is the 3 ft stretch the magic number everyone uses, sheet aluminum come in 4x8 and 4x12 sheets. Just some thoughts and questions and stepping on it as usual.

Frankly, considering the effects of the 3500+# Honda CRV, I can't imagine
towing with 3' more lever arm for it to operate on. (no matter where the
prepositions land!)

Hey Skip;
When I went from the 76 Palm Beach to the Stretch, the "coach with
the extra room" seemed a little lighter in the front and steered and
turned easier. One thing that is nice is that the Stretch has the same
turning radius as the 26 footer. However, when towing you do have to
watch out for the extra arc that the towed vehicle or trailer goes
through. but like everything else, you get use to it. Ours is
stretched about 2.5 ft, and I don't know how it was done, but am sure
glad it was.

For those towing with rear-stretched coaches, a caution learned with my big
rig: Be SURE you're moving forward before starting a turn because the toad
first turns in the opposite direction to the tow-er. A dramatic
demonstration of that occurred when I was towing my '84 Toyota PU in an
unpaved FL campground. To get out of where the 40'er was parked, I cranked
the steering over to the right and pulled away. After a moderate 180* turn
and a couple of hundred yards of straight travel, I spied in the mirrors an
enormous cloud of dust -- no Toy visible!
When I stopped and ran back to survey the situation, I found that the Toy,
after turning LEFT during the start of my RIGHT turn, never castered back
to straight ahead nor further right -- the soft sand didn't create the
necessary caster action, but plowed up enough to hold the full left turn.
I don't know what would have happened if I'd gotten to pavement, but I
know I could have plowed miles of beach sand with the front wheels of the
Toy. With 800 ft-lb of torque, a very high ratio rear end, and 6 speed
transmission, and an 8:1 weight advantage, the 40'er didn't much notice the
added load -- the GMC probably would protest.

Well, if it's Jim's, we certainly know it's aligned correctly! He was the
first one to make me think about DIY alignment 10+ years ago.
