With the cooler air in the mornings I have decided to find what my problem is on the climate control panel as I only get heat out of one dash vent and the defrost on my 76 Palm Beach.
I removed the instrument cover on the back side and found that I had a broken piece of plastic that controls the heat direction. I had a spare unit out of a 73 but it is different than my 76. I checked the Bdub site and supposedly the 73 to 76 are the same? My question is where there three different climate control panels used in the GMC or just the two 73-76 and 77-78? I am hoping that I have the later year control panel as there are more choices of vehicles to choose from.
Air Conditioner/Heater Control Panel:
Panels from ’70-’71 Buick Riviera will fit ’73-’76 motorhomes. Panels from ’77-’84 GM cars will fit ’77-’78 motorhomes. Vacuum select wafer is unique. Change wafer from original panel. (Don’t lose OEM wafer.)

I removed the 76 PB dash Climate Control and replaced it with the one out of the 73 Canyonlands. Traced out the vacuum line and have vacuum coming from a port just behind the carburetor, to a three way vacuum connector behind the dash. There is vacuum to the porting valve that attaches to the climate control lever, but I still only get heat out of one dash register and the defroster no matter what position the climate control lever is in. I did remove the blower motor to check for any obstacles, but none were found.
We are leaving for Montana in a week and it sure would be nice to get this corrected before we go.
Any ideas as to what else I can try?
I did go the men's mall and found several climate controls from late 70's to early 80's but the presets for the level control was different from my 76 PB in all of them.

Thanks Mark, I hadn't seen those diagrams before.

Bruce,
Since I added the colors to that diagram, let me emphasize that you can't
really depend on the color codes I added -- because they may not be
consistent between models, much less after PO's have had a go at them. But
they did help me understand the system (at the time I added them).
One thing you should notice is that the HVAC vacuum should not come
directly from the manifold but from the "softball" reservoir on the
driver's side of the HVAC box under the hood. Not likely significant to
your problem, but it will help keep the doors where you want them when
engine vacuum drops.
You need to locate all of the vacuum actuators to be sure you understand
their function vs the hoses & lever positions.
When you do ANY swapping of HVAC control panels, always keep your original
selector disk from the rotary valve operated by the selector lever -- it's
UNIQUE to the GMC.

How hard is it to remove and refurbish the control levers? Mine is very stiff and doesn't move the heater control door on the heater box, so I assume I need to check the cable and lubricate the mechanisms. I have heard about a pivot pin that breaks, and that is possible on my unit.
Before sending it to JimK for a rebuilt one, I'd like to give it a shot myself if it's a reasonable project, I don't think it's ever been touched before.
