Great to see that more companies are stepping up and producing these oils. Brad Penn Oil and Joe Gibbs oils are also supposed to be formulated with the ZDDP levels needed. I've also heard that Kendell GT also has the necessary levels, but I haven't checked their specs.

I don't know how critical this is for 'experienced' engines, but definitely a good idea for newly rebuilt engines.

Don't forget the Lucas Hot Rod and Classics oil. It has the good stuff in it and is designed for vehicles that are use sporadically. Available in two or three different viscosities.

Another one is Valvoline VR-1. It is kind of a 'weekend warrior' racing oil with high levels of ZDDP. I believe it is Jim Bounds' oil of choice too. I have used it in my coach ever since I did the first oil change four years ago.

Now if they would only be nice enough to start making occasional use gasoline! When storing a vehicle, I always used to fill the tank and add Sta-Bil, but I'm not sure what's the best course of action these days.

Sorry for the thread hijack!

By the way, next week we will have some of the old Top Fuel dragsters on display and starting them up on a load of Nitro at three different venues. El Cajon Main Street cruise night Wednesday there will be eight cars. Friday night on Grand Avenue in Escondido there will be more than twenty of them. Saturday we will be at the Crower Cams home base on Otai Mesa. I will be at each Event with one or more cars. Contact me directly for more info. IMHO. Racing oils may have ZDDP but are the wrong thing for MH service. Racing oils are meant to be disposed after each race and don't offer ph stabilization and corrosion protection nor hold dirt in suspension properly to name few.

John,

That certainly is true of 'true' racing oil, such as "Valvoline Specialty Racing Oil", but what I use "Valvoline VR-1 Racing Motor Oil is a family of race-proven lubricants formulated to provide high load carrying characteristics, minimum foaming and maximum resistance to thermal degradation. Exclusive chemistry reduces internal friction and enhances power output under extreme service conditions. Valvoline VR-1 Racing Motor Oil is recommended for engines burning gasoline and full or partial alcohol fuels in track and street service. Valvoline VR-1 Racing Motor Oil is for use in any car, light truck, van, or SUV where API “SN” is recommended"

It is a street "racing" oil, and as such does not have the limitations and frequent drain intervals of true competition racing oil.

I just get this stuff anytime I am in Wallmart:

<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/just-stuff/p33060-sf-oil-found-at-wallmart-front.html>

It has ZDDP and is cheap enough to change often.

Yes, it would be better if it was "SG" as I understand SG is better for sludge while still having the ZDDP levels we need. But just change it more often....

Amsoil has an oil for our needs, both plenty of ZDDP and rust preventive during storage. It is the highest quality synthetic and even at retail is cheaper than the Hemmings oil. Dick Paterson says it is the best oil for our engines.
