This is a kind of interesting coach on ebay.

The plate says Rollalong - I've seen that before and assume that was someone who finished a Transmode.
The maroon panels on the side appear to be vinyl. I saw a coach with vinyl sides like that at St. Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach about a year ago.
Not really in the market, but thought this was interesting and it piqued my curiosity.

Not absolutely sure, Mickey, but I think
that ONLY the 26 had the 6000 Watt Onan.
Lots of different external features than
"normal" 26 coaches and I think it's most
likely a Transmode finished out by that
RollAlong company.

Anybody have an idea about the vinyl panels on the outside? I've seen a coach in person with this "feature."
Seems like asking for trouble. Like vinyl wood on a Country Squire station wagon.

Mac - I agree with you for the most part. My mother who was what we call down south a "sport model" always had her Cadillacs modified to have one of those tops with the ribs showing. She had a '72 Eldorado convertible, but moved on to Sedan de Villes. I always said those cars looked like a starved cow. She had a continental kit on her last fire engine red caddy. I "passed" on keeping it when she died.
My '96 Fleetwood Brougham looks so much better with a vinyl top. No ribs showing. Ditto on white sidewall tires. It just doesn't look right with black tires.
So...it depends on the car. IMHO
I don't think I'd want the vinyl on the sides of the Rollalong, but I wouldn't ever change it - just because it is so cool.

This Roll-A-Long is new to the Registry and the only one, so far, that
was a 1976 build. There are about 17 listed and all are 26' 1975
models.

Note: Stock 26 footer had 6kw generators, 23 had 4 kw gensets. Compartment in 23 footer is too small for 6kw, without modification. Reading the list for a long time, 23 foot owners have done creative installs of different sets. Ken Henderson has done a creative install, Rick Denny has also done two, first one genset failed and manufacturer disavowed all knowledge. Maybe we should start a separate topic,if there is general interest.

The 6KW Power Drawer won't fit the generator bay on a 23'. I got both, the 26 has the power drawer, the 23 has/had a Junkerac. It's a Norris Coach upfit though and the genset is a PO add. There was at one time a 4KW Power Drawer with the little Onanengine and alternator fitted, I think some of these found their way into 23 footers.

I changed the subject. My 23' has a Generac variable speed 3.6KW set. If/when I out it back in the coach I'll take suome pictures. It is small and liughtweight, and the install was neatly done. Generac quickly ceased production on this model and went to an inverter style instead. They' have now abdicated the RV market. No great loss, except the 3.6 is a small package which is easy top fit. Unfortunately, it suffers from some design flaws which are nearly fatal. Essentially, the things are built to a price point rather than to last which is a shame. As far as I know, it's the only vertical shaft set available which makes for a nice compact package. I am cyurrently - as time permits since I don't dry camp - fixing the starter assembly, which was poorly designed and almost guaranteed to crack as mine has. While I have the set out, I propose to make up for a couple of its shortcomings in design. At least to the degree possible.

The Generac Impact 36G came in two versions. The plain 36G is not an

Ken Henderson was the first to install one that I know of. His blew
out some components in the inverter, and he was not impressed by the
electronics in that unit when he opened it up, nor by the lack of
support from the dealer and manufacturer. He and I both bought ours
from Norwall, I think--an online source that was completely unhelpful
to either of us. Ken's 36G-Plus failed because of inverter components
after 50 or 60 hours as I recall. He replaced his with a Troy-bilt
backuip generator to which he added the necessary controls to make it
safe for RV use--definitely a job for someone like Ken.
I also bought an Impact 36G-Plus a little after Ken did (but before he
had his problems, of course). Mine blew the shaft speed sensor after
about 50 hours. I replaced that, which required opening up the top of
the unit and pulling the flywheel--which contains the generator
magnets. I also replaced the ignition module (as a much easier first
step). Since then, mine has been working well, but I'm always nervous
about it.
We both took measures to make sure that the top of the generator has
an abundant air supply, but I also determined that the air flow can be
blocked at the bottom, too. Care is needed for both cooling-air supply
AND exhaust. The installation instructions specify vent dimensions,
but in my view these are not adequate. In my case, exhaust air was
recirculating in the compartment and feeding back into intake air,
which meant it was just getting hotter. I finally baffled it to make
sure most of the exhaust air actually left the compartment.
One thing I think really helped mine was installing an automatic
transfer switch. That will not switch the power circuits to the
generator until it has been running for about 30 seconds, guaranteeing
that the generator will start under no load.
These generators are not to be confused with the Generac Quietpact
series, which have been popular and reliable as a low-cost alternative
to Onans and Hondas (of course, Hondas are no longer available). The
Impact models were intended to compete with the Onan Camp-Power
models, which ar price-point models that are not well-respected in
Onan's line.
The Quietpact 40G is nominally the same output as the Impact 36G-Plus,
but it is in the typical long and low configuration and is too long to
fit in a 23-foot GMC compartment without modification.

Mine is the original 36G. I'll repeat this, I put it up in another thread a few months ago. Ken's was - I believe - the inverter version.
Anyway, the original is a variable speed generator which through some rather ingenious switching will produce AC between 55Cycles and 65 cycles with an engine speed variation form 2200 to 3600 RPM. The value of this is, you keep the surge capacity of the spinning weight just as you would in a fixed speed set. This is what you lose in an inverter system and what requires you to size up the genset to start your air conditioner - or anything with a motor in which requires high starting current.
Now, Generac iterated this by putting multiple windings on the alternator and swithing them about using SCRs as the switching devices. By doing this, they get a 'reasonable' sine wave - It's sinusoidal anyway = which will always fall betwee n 55 and 65 Hz regardless the load and engine speed. It has the same surge capacity as the 40, because it's the spinning energy in the rotor which gives the capacity. The set is actually developing 535Hz AC... and if you fail the SCRs that's what you get, exceopt it shuts itself down qyuickly to preclude further damage. Generac only made this toy for about a year, then they realized their iteration of it wasn't very reliable. Making it so would price it out of the market, so they seriesed the windings, stuck a rectifier pack in it and added an outboard inverter - hence the 36G Plus. The nice part is, with multiple windings you can get sufficient flux with fixed magnets, thus no exciter windings or moving
contacts are necessary. The not nice part is, short a couple of SCRs and you will burn a winding open, pretty much a death sentence for the little thing.
I like the compact vertical shaft design. I like the light weight. I've now said everything nice there is to say about the 36G.
