Hello-

I had no luck with a locksmith regarding my Sequoia's broken lock cylinder, and I looked at a bunch of cylinders for GM doors and trunk lids at an auto parts store without finding anything usable. Should I start looking for an old cylinder from Jim K or Jim B perhaps, or so you have any other suggestions?

Thanks-

Gene-

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I had looked at your page and links, and I appreciate the information. From the "dwinchester" link, it appears that I may be able to just buy a new cylinder (or set of two) from a Kenworth dealer since my coach already has the smaller cylinder and key (I presume it was a Kenworth-type that was replaced/modified for a GM-type in later coaches).

I brought my bad cylinder to the local Kenworth dealer, and they had the
new ones in stock. It is just like the old one, except that I had to
grind some of the flanges off each side where the slide-clip holds the
cylinder to the door. The newer ones use a big snap ring that did not
look like it could be used on the GMC. (Unless there is another Kenworth
part that truly fits as is.) The part number for a set of two cylinders
is 30GN15. They are not $22 or $30 for a set anymore, though; I paid
just over $60 for the pair. (Some of that may be the normal
"California/Bay Area tax", though.)

Gene-

I already installed the new lock, but I can take side-by-side pictures
of the other, unmodified new lock with the original one, as well as the
hardware that came with the new one. Is that what you had in mind?

The latch mechanism is, as Billy says, a Kenworth but it takes a GM tumbler. Any good locksmith can assist you or you might check Applied GMC or other GMC shops.
