I have one boogie pin that refuses to take anymore grease, the pin is full of grease, but nothing extrudes out even when I "encourage" it with my Lincoln impact cleaner.

Yes, the Zerk is good.

The 1 1/2 pin nuts are very tight.

Any thoughts whether I should go through the push-up to loosen the pin nuts, what should the nuts be tightened to?

Thanks

Gil

The grease might be "impacted". Take the zerk off and take a soda straw and
see if you can remove any of the hard grease from the hole. Also I've found
that by jacking the trunnion up a bit to take weight off that I can get more
grease in.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions, the soda straw pulled out a load of clean grease past 8 inches and then it found some machining debris at the very end of the bore.

I drove in some light oil with the impact cleaner and finally some oil came out at the pivots. (for those unfamiliar) an impact cleaner is a hammer powered grease ram.

The pin now takes grease and will extrude at both ends but it take a huge amount of grease gun pressure to make it happen.

I guess that I will let it soak for a while and then try to solvent clean it.

Gil,

Unless you got all the "machining debris" out before you used the impact cleaner you may driven the debris further into the
bushings.

It might be a good idea to try and flush it out. Get a couple of cans of brake cleaner from Wal Mart and use some shrink tubing or
tightly wrapped tape to connect them together.

Remove the zerks and clean out the grease with a straw as best possible and once that's done stick the two red straws connected to a
can of brake cleaner down the hole and back flush monitoring what you get out.

Keep doing it and monitor what comes out the zerk hole and around the end of the bushings.

I'd run both cans of brake cleaner down the hole.

When your done wait an hour or two as that willl allow the brake cleaner to evaporate then re grease the bogie again and see if it
take grease easier.

Regards,
Rob M.

Gil,

I know all about grease rams, but mine has gone missing.
Do you have a model number?
Do you know if they are still available?

Gil and Rob,

Thanks
It is really hard to find things when all you know is the colloquial name that you have used forever.

This topic reminded me of my rear suspension rebuild. I bought pins and bushings from Applied. Good stuff but there was a considerable amount of machining debris inside the hollow part of the pin. I blew it out with compressed air while blocking different grease ports kinda like a flute to direct the air pressure around inside.
