Hi Les,

Thanks for posting these most interesting pictures. Perhaps these subtle changes help explain the different experiences we are hearing about as people install 1 ton front ends. The GMC manuals do not reflect any geometry differences year to year following the change from 3 degrees static caster in 73 lowered to 2 degrees in 75 and on, but while most people have installed the 1 ton with great results, a few have been fighting to get theirs to drive correctly. There is not much adjustment range in the upper A arm to effect camber and caster, but any change in where those brackets are located or where the adjustment slots are in relation to the ball joints could have a profound effect.

Jerry,

I thought it was the other way round? After 1975 it was easier to get more caster.

All Tom Hampton could get at 0° camber was 1.9° caster in Double Trouble WITH offset upper bushings!

I installed a set of Dave Lenzi's modified upper control arms and now I run 5° caster, 0 camber, 0 toe in/out.

I'm going to ask Jim Hupy to drive Double Trouble to assess it's handling and stopping. I think they're both very good but I have
only driven my two GMC's whereas he has driven many and has a larger frame of reference.

Regards,
Rob M.

John,

Thanks MATE!

The B'day was great, every year you get to hang around on this planet after you retire is a bonus. At the end of this year it'll be
10 for me!

THANKS for wanting me to become MORE paranoid about the way this thing drives, assuming you'll tell JimH to say it drives lousy! ;-)

Have a safe trip up!

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob, we have arrived in Deadwood. Give me a call on the cell when you get
a chance. We are in a parking lot on the left side of the main drag, behind
the Hampton Inn.

I wonder why 2 degrees of caster is not incorporated in the new 1 Ton lower control arm? Would this change mess up other dimensions? Seems to be a minor change when you think of where the tire contact patch has been moved to? A long, long ways from the idea position of being in line with the ball joints.
