Everything is ok. Survived 2 days in Chicago without getting mugged or shot. 7 people were murdered the weekend before I got there and 5 more were shot one night while we were there. Traffic may be worse than L.A.
Left Chicago Friday a.m. following the I&M Canal and went to Starved Rock State Park on the Illinois River for 2 nights. Forgot that it was Labor Day Weekend.
Campground had been totally reserved but because rain was expected there were cancellations and we were able to get in.
Currently in Lincoln's New Salem. The place where Abe lived as a young adult and where he first got into politics.
The camp host told me that last weekend there was a group of 6 or 7 GMCs here.
Heading to Springfield to visit Lincoln's Presidential Library etc. Then to Cahokia for the Indian Mounds and St. Louis for the Arch and a Bud. If the weather improves we'll go on down the Mississippi. If not, we'll get across Missouri to St. Joseph.
I hear there's a fella named Donner forming up a wagon train; headin' for Oregon/ California. Hope to make it over the mountains before the snows come.
Coach is running fine; no issues since the power steering pump except some minor vapor lock while driving in stop and go on surface streets

Gene, you reminded us about our trip through IL in 2010. We visited
Starving Rock, Lincoln's home, the I&E Canal, etc. We also were lucky to
be able to get the only/last space in an RV park in PA for Memorial Day
weekend 2010. As Rob would say, Good in ya and continued safe travels!

I hope you enjoy Starved Rock.
There was a cable car over to the small island in the middle of the river there. On that island there was a grass airstrip that we would fly to and ride the small cable car into the park. I do not think it is there any more since Illinois shut down all of their airstrips in state parks years ago.

Gene,
Forget the Bud. Go to 3229 Washington Ave and have a draft at Urban Chestnut Brewing Company (UCBC). Florian is the brewmaster and was the product development brewmaster at Busch before Imbev took them over. He is brewing up some great beers and has been recognized as having one of the world's best new pubs. As a side note, I have a business relationship with these guys - they are doing great things! Give them a try if you get a chance and let me know what you think of their operation.

If you are still coming South, Hurricane Isaac caused no major damage, so go where your heart leads you.

I think a good number of former Bud people have gone into the beer business on their own.. I bet (and HOPE) they'll do well. Maybe there IS life after AB - 'might even be a better life.
