OK, I have slots for 8 coaches (16 windshields). I have 4.5 coaches (9 windshields) on the list as of Sunday night. These are people that said they were interested when the sent in their GMCMI registrations. I have sent out an emails to those people asking them to reconfirm.

If you did not receive an email from me, then now is the time to sign up. It makes no difference when you indicated your interest on the registration form or not.

As soon as I have 8 confirmations I will shut this off. So send your emails now. You can also telephone me with questions. If you get my voice recorder, please speak slowly while making the recording.

Do you have an idea of which day (days) they would be coming out to do the installs?

Ken,

I wanted to express my thanks for putting a windshield install program together.  It is pretty thankless in that there is so much liability involved and a high ticket item so if even one is damaged during installation any profit goes out the window.  It's good that it is a non vendor program, it really does not pay to take the risk for a dealer to offer the service.  As you know, I used to do it but had to bow to the recommendation of my CPA and was forced to stop it.

If anyones windshields are foggy, you just can't imagine how nice it is to drive with clear windshields-- kinda like the first time you put on perscription glasses!  Cost is what it is and I know Ken is giving you the true story on cost.  You need windshields installed and sealed professionally and properly, this is a great chance to have it done and done well.

Support Ken's efforts, if your windshields need replacing-- do it, what are you saving your money for anyway!  The only way to make this cost effective is for Ken to get many windshields installed.  I am sure he is installing the American made glass so you can;t do better.

Good luck at the rally, I have a drop dead delivery on Oct. 1 so I cannot be there.  Good luck on offering windshields, it is truly a needed service,

Jim Bounds

Jim, I'm not making any money at this. At several people's request I organized one of these last year at the Goshen GMCMI rally. The glass vendor is a friend who has been in the business for over 25 years and has done many GMC's for us in his shop location in Crown Point, Indiana.

When Kim asked if I could get them to do it again their original response was no because 250 miles one way was too far to travel. He finally relented and so we have it again. Unlike Goshen which was not far from the warehouse, we have to get the windshields ordered shipped in during the previous week.

I doubt we will do it again in the near future because there are no rallies currently scheduled withing in his travel range.

Yes, these are made by Guardian and US made. Varicon is no longer in the windshield manufacturing business. He has been installing Guardian for several years now. They come from the same warehouse company that both you and he have been using for years. These will ship out of Elkhart where yours probably come from Jacksonville.

Ken D. tried a set of those European made GMC windshields many years ago and they could not get them to fit to their satisfaction. So all they use are Varicon and now Guardian. Ken D. taught me that no matter what the name is inscribed in the windshield, that you can look at the DOT number and determine the real manufacturer. I believe Guardian is 22. Ken's normal business is large trucks and buses. He also does a small amount of cars so he is recognized by almost all insurance companies.

These guys are working fools. I do not know how they do it. I know I would be worked out after the first windshield.

Yes, that's what I mean.  It's not as much about the profit because if you break even, in the past experience I had with windshield installation, it is the liability you take on in even transporting the quantity of glass.  You break one it's done!  If you had to rely on paying taxes, insurance, overhead and all that no one would buy the glass so it's a no win for a dealer to head that up-- I know.

That's why I say thankd for heading it up and that anyone needing glass (come on, aren;t you tired od squinting through that fog) should sign up and get windshields (come on, 2 of them not just the 1 you look through) at the rally.  it is truly a needed thing and a rally is the perfect time to offer it-- too bad there is no incentive for a dealer to offer it.  it is a great service you offer though and I commend you for it,

Yes, thanks Ken for all of your work. Our windshield money left us 3 or 4 years ago in Oregon when I installed a new 3 way refer. Our's shot yellow stuff everywhere.
Now, today is Tuesday, Aug. 28th. Do you have any slots left available Ken?

Count me in for a driver side r and r. I will bring my own LH glass. The existing glass is a Cinnabar job and just starting to fog. If itt comes out intact it is available CHEEEEP.

As of about an hour ago I only had two slots left. After I started this note someone telephoned from Michigan so now I only have one slot left.

I haven't checked my email in the last hour.

As per the announcement, all requests were suppose to come in by checking the box on the GMCMI registration form and be received by last Thursday. As of last Thursday Kim opened the program to anyone here who sent me an email. It was the only way to make it fair.

Last rally I announced it here on GMCnet first and GMCMI rally members who did not follow GMCnet were too late to get in by the time they found out about it.

So yes, as of an hour ago I still have one slot available.

I'm SORRY we can not do more but these guys have a business to run and their Monday through Friday 2 hour on site contracts with trucking and bus companies do not allow them to do more than the two weekend days we have in the schedule.

They will do additional installations in their shop in Crown Point, Indiana (Chicago area) on Saturdays. To date over the years they have probably installed about 75-100 GMC windshields. They did mine about 10 years ago.

Email me if you need their telephone number.

Ken B.

As of Wednesday August 29 we have 7 of the 8 slots filled. Meaning only one slot is left open. I sent out 3 more emails to 3 people that signed up on their GMCMI registration forms. (I'm going by post mark date). I expect at least one of them to confirm by email tomorrow. I would love to keep them over for another day but they can't. They have a week day business to run. Normally they only do GMCs for us in their shop on Saturday mornings.
