What are the benifits to running no fender liners? Other than water splashing on the motor. I have headers and the pass. side is somewhat melted which I guess is a common occurance from what ive read on here. Im just looking at a maint. stand point because i have fender extensions and as simple as everything is to get to without the liners I would really like to leave them out but they are easy to remove without the extensions hard with. I did do the 1 ton conversion and if i remember Ken H. had to leave his extensions off anyway so i might have answered my own Question.

Ted,

Helps the engine run cooler if you live in a hot area like the Sacramento
Valley in California. The hot air can blow right out.

Ted,

The fender flares on my coach are "permanently" adhered to the body with PL
Urethane so I modified the liners years ago to allow me to remove the inner
1/2:

If I were doing that today, I'd either move the split inboard or just cut
out the vertical portion of the liner.

As for the interference, I only had to trim the lower 6" or so of the
fronts of the fender flares to clear the tires. It's hardly noticeable to
me. If I ever have the accumulated dings cleaned up on 3 of 4 corners &
other places, I'll have something done to better finish those. Maybe.

How's the install coming along?

Ken H.

The melting of the liners are always on the passenger side when you run the
headers.
We trim off about 2-3 inch off the area that comes close to the pipe.
In my 32 years of running the coaches, I tend to believe that the liners
serve to increase the flow of air close to the engine and can help cool the
exhaust manifold.
Only reason why I run most of the time with out the liners is that I'm in a
hurry and leave it off.

Jim thats maybe what i will do is trim some off. Im like you I belive they form a tunnel for air flow.
Ken
Eveything is back together exept the lines and flairs. I put on the front spoiler (air dam) and bumpers and bumper fill in with the grill and aluminium battery tray. today finished the wiring and bled the front brakes. Tommorow will be rear brakes and wheel liners. After that im going to tackle my busted Air bag with my new setup. We wiil see how everything works out. I may still need help with the alignment but i will know better next week after i drive it.
