I have removed the 400lb Onan and do not intend to replace it. Now the water tank is on the other side and the generator space will be for general storage with outside access. Should I move the water tank to the centre? or can the suspension system compensate?

Peter,

IIRC according to one of the GMC manuals the left / right balance is not greater than 250 pounds.

I learned this from ChuckB; if I learned wrong I trust he will correct me.

Rob M.

Gene,

Is that because of the auto-leveling?

I understand they are not used with the 'wireless air' systems.

Should that change his solution?

The bags will inflate until the height control valve shuts off the flow. If one side is heavier than the other the shut off level remains unchanged so the heavier side bag may see more pressure but the coach will level nonetheless.

On almost every coach I have weighed the left rear side is heavier than the right.

Like most others have said, an operational “leveling” system should compensate. Ken noted that most coaches are a little heaver in the rear on the left side... mostly due to the Onan. While true with the few coaches I have weighed, the left side certainly was NOT 400 lbs heaver. I understand that GM did try and balance the coaches during the design and should be within 200 to 250 lbs side to side when the coach is loaded. I notice that you have a 23 foot coach, if so you most likely removed a 4k Onan… less weight than the “normal” 6k.

All that said: With the Onan gone you are now likely heaver on the RIGHT side, most likely about 200 lbs. Without the Onan you might be able to get your weight balance closer than GM did with the Onan.

Maybe you should weigh your coach to find out if you really have anything to worry about it? Rolling Eyes

the leveling valves just bring the coach back to ride height after leveling
for parking.

do the test
-set ride height with travel switch
- have 4 close friends stand on one side of rear bumper
-see if any adjustment is made by leveling valves...

they have so much hysteresis, and low sensitivity, they will not see
several hundred pounds of change.

ride height is held by pressure change, and you set the ride height one
time with a preset button.
