Change in 922747 AZ fan clutch [message #180851]

When Dean was here installing his new engine we picked up a HD fan clutch from AZ. I noticed it came with a brass bushing to put on the shaft to center the clutch on the pump as it had a bigger hole than the original. Probably to fit more applications. It seems the shaft was a little thicker and we almost ran into an interference issue when installing the nuts with the washers attached that was on the coach. It was clearly cast Made in the USA, and the price went up $3. Worked great. I might advise starting all 4 nuts before tightining..

That link did not show any specific model number, only the whole Torqflo line.....how many blades on your fan? Armand Minnie recently blogged his use of the Torqflo 922747. Just curious as to which one you selected. Thanks.

Sir: when I click on link I get Auto Zone site showing 922747 only? Clutch fan for `76 Olds Toro. Don`t rmember about # of blades but can go look if you need. The blades do not come with the clutch.

I am a moron. I see on the title of your thread that you had the model number. Missed that. I mention the number of blades because of a warning in the Parts Interchange book that some of the replacement fan clutches come with a warning "not recommended for 7 blade fans" or some such verbage. My coach has 7 blade fan. It is funny you posted this. Because of Armand Minnies blog, I already had one of these on my "stop at Autozone" list for a spare. Thanks.

Charles,
Torque flow is the autozone brand name for the HD Hayden. Interesting to
note that the Hayden HD ones are made off shore and the torque flow name is
made in the USA. At any rate, it is a 2797.

I believe I will give the 2747 a try. I just out on a Hayden 2797 and I am not sure I want anything that "severe" abusing our ears. The 2797 is coming on at 195 ( with a 185 thermostat) I would rather have it come on at 210 or so. I am thinking that the Severe vs. Heavy duty will not change that, just change the RPMs the clutch pulls the fan to?

Actually the opposite is true. The 2797 is the one I went through 3 of before I got Hayden to admit that they lowered the engagement temperature. It sure caused me problems but their engineers were proud of the fact that they had reduced the engagement temperature. They tried to get me to modify the coiul spring on the front to change the temperature. I refused after going through 3 of them and returned the clutches.

If you like lots of noise, unnecessary engagement, and lower mpg, then that is the clutch to use. As a severe duty clutch it will definitely move some air. It was designed for a larger diameter fan with a larger pitch than we have on a GMC.
