I need to replace the toilet in the coach. The one there is pretty much worn out. The question is; Will any brand-name RV toilet fit, or do I need to stick to a Aqua-Magic? I'd prefer one with side bolts instead of front-back bolts for ease of installation. I'm planning to get a new seal from JimK to install when I set the new one, but do I need it? I'll likely find a pull-out or a clean used one to save money, since there's not much to go around right now. Any installation tips & info is appreciated.

Seems to me that folks have installed lots of different brand toilets, some fit easier because of the water fill location -- the major considerations, china bowl and seat height.
I would think that the seal would come with the new unit -- but you can buy them at almost any RV shop for $5-6 -- so don't bother with a used one. Or maybe you are talking about a different seal?

Richard,
I'm no expert on toilets, but I can tell you what I did. I installed a Sealand 510 porcelain bowl toilet a few summers ago. It has the mounting bolts on the sides and there was no problem with clearance or fit. It came with a new rubber 'toilet ring' seal and was a breze to install. I suspect that just about any standard RV toilet will work. The color, "bone", matches the interior of the wet bath almost perfectly.

I replaced mine with an Aqua-Magic from Thetford. The only thing I did was to get the raised bowl model as it's a bit easier on old joints IMHO. I think they all bolt right in without a lot of fuss.

the high profile toilet and it comes in white or bone. Go bang for

This is the one that I have in the Stretch coach and the wife really
likes it.
Again same options.
You can order online and the big brown truck will bring it to your door.
You don't need to buy a seal. They come with the toilet or you can
get them at any RV supply for under $5 if you find a used toilet.

Richard,
I will reiterate what I noted several weeks ago when you first brought up this subject.
I purchased two (2) Aqua Magic Style Plus toilets from PPL in Houston (one for Double Trouble the second for The Blue Streak.
At that time they were $218, however, and additional $11.00 ain't bad when one considers they'll ship it for free! It comes with an
installation kit that includes the bolts to bolt it to the floor flange AND a new seal. I called them because the sale date had
passed but they still sold me the two of them for $218.00.

To fit it you will have to remove the large screws that hold the flange to the floor and rotate the floor flange a bit to get the
bolts in the floor flange to align with the bolt holes in the toilet base.
I reckon the best thing to do would be to unscrew the floor flange completely, make sure everything is OK under it, clean it up, and
lubricate the threads on the flange and those in the tank fitting with a bit of Vaseline then screw it back until it contacts the
floor then rotate it just far enough to align the bolts in the flange and the toilet base; then screw the flange back down to the
floor.
I installed mine back in February and so far NO PROBLEMS. The fact that it is a bit higher makes it easier to get up after serious
contemplation and clearing my mind for the day! ;-)

You can have the one in my SOB, I've no idea if it works or not. But I can pull it out instead of sending it to salvage with the box and chassis if you want and can figure a way to et it from the Ga mountains to Tejas, wherever Murchison is. It is whatever Itasca put in their 70s products, two pedals.

Not to say that you shouldn't take Johnny up on his offer of the unit
out of his 70'ish SOB, but the wife will be more than happy with the
new china bowl style toilet than an old plastic unit, believe me I
know! Shipping and any parts that you need will make it cost the
same as new. All the o-rings and seal will be dried out and hard and
will need to be replace. I tried to redo the thedford toilet in our
first coach (1977) and it needed a water valve and seals and it
stilled leaked at the bowl gasket. A 30+ year old toilet is a 30+
year old toilet and you can never get the plastic clean. JMHO and you
can do as you wish.

To follow up, this one was last used about ten years ago by the PO, who lived in the RV while he built his dream home. So listen to JR. If it's just you and you need a working pooter, go for it and replace the rubber parts. You want a throne - or wife wants one, buy it new and skip the hassle.

Is the flush valve a ball, which may be worth fooling with; or, a blade
which is not?

I went and looked. AquaMagic, sleazoid cheapo model. Has a plastic plate which slides across the bottom of the bowl from one side. Flush pedal overlaps the spray pedal to force spray on flush, but you can still fill it with the spray pedal. I assume it works, it opens and closes stiffly as it should. Other than a pickup, it's not in my opinion worth shipping anyplace. If it got a free ride to a new home, it would be functional, at least minimally.

I've got one that fits that same description; replace with porcelain about
3 years ago. Just too lazy to take it all the way out to the street for
pickup, I guess.
