HI,

I've found that our Archives as well as English, German and Romanian never cast a bad light on their own...When it comes to what Compton did...you can believe everything that is in my book. I personally interviewed General K.K. Compton asking him who was responsible for the "Wrong Turn"..He without a pause..said...I was. So forget anything you have heard..Compton caused the terrible loss of life and completely destroyed Col. J. Smart's plan to destroy the oil refineries...

As far as the Germans knowing about the mission..When you bring in 250 B24s almost everyone green color on a desert which is very light beige...and have recon German planes fly over every day before our leaving on Aug.1st,
it's not hard for the enemy to know something very big is about to happen.....

Also, we flew over the island of Corfu then inland over Yugos(?) Bulgaria and other areas , all German controlled,
they sure knew we were coming......BUT THAT'S NOT WHEN... they had placed gun in placements all along our route.....Was that just a guess ..hell no...they knew our plans well in advance...they even had low flying barrage balloons (500ft.high)OVER OUR TARGET..... and many of us hit the cables.....

BOB
