Hi Bob,
Sorry for not getting back sooner.
We had 25 coaches in White Rock.
12 went to Whistler. 11 to boston bar. 9 to Kelowna and joined by 2 others.
3 of us went to Jasper. We are now in Banff joined by 2 and met another new
coach owner. There will be 4 of us going to Saskatoon in two days from now.
No toads. So far there will be Jim Hupy, sandy shull and myself.
We should be in Brandon on the 17 or 18 . Will let u know in a couple of
days.
Dwayne.

I could meet you at the Riverbank Discovery Centre.

Carry on on Number One highway into Brandon. At the first set of lights (18th Street also Number 10 Highway South) turn right.

Carry on South on 18th Street down the hill and turn left at the 3rd set of lights (Kirkcaldy Drive). Do not cross the river.

At the first set of lights on Kirkcaldy turn right into the Discovery Centre.

The Discovery centre has tourist information, a dump station, and adequate parking.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

OR I could meet you just off the highway at Macdonalds parking lot

Carry on on Number One highway into Brandon. At the first set of lights (18th Street also Number 10 Highway South) turn left onto the service road.

Carry on driving East on the service road to Macdonalds (just a stone throw)

Give me a call on my cell phone 204 761 3797 after you come to the town of Alexander and I will meet you at your choice of locations. Both are easy to find.

I hope while you are in Brandon that you take a 60 mile detour south on Highway 10 to the International Peace Garden on the Manitoba/ North Dakota Border. It is worth the trip. They have camping facilities with showers. WiFi also available there. Just ask and they will tell you where. I was just there last month.

I think I will build a trailer that has a bath tub for my wife. I could
rent it out at rallies and especially on rolling ones.

Hey the conversations I wish I could be there to hear would be the ones between Jim Hupy and Dick Patterson that will happen when you get to Dick's place (or where ever it is you are going to hookup).

You are right about the Peace garden but I doubt if they will be making the Peace garden detour as they have quite a trip in front of them, I don't know when you were there last but I was there in June and was surprised that there is a huge new structure with a massive area devoted to cactus. I don't quite know what cactus has to do with Manitoba or North Dakota as few cactus can survive our winters. Anyway as you point out the camping area is good and reasonably priced and the gardens are always worth seeing. On my trip down to that area in June I lost two wheel covers off my GMC. Manitoba roads can be a challenge.

Their trip along the North Shore of Lake superior will be a challenge. I have made the trip around Lake Superior many times - sometimes pulling a 24 foot trailer. I have also made the trip to Vancouver pulling a 24 foot trailer. In my opinion the grades around the lake and through the Canadian Shield can be as bad as those in BC as in Ontario they just seem to go over the hills whereas in BC they try to go around them where possible. The truck traffic is also horrendous as most of Northern Ontario is two lanes although I hear there are more passing lanes now than when I was last on it.

Dwayne, when you get to Thunder Bay Ontario, you will have to make a decision how to get from Thunder Bay to Subury or Thunder Bay to North Bay. The trukers use Hwy 11 to North Bay. A tiny bit longer but MUCH flatter. Hwy 17 to Sudbury is GREAT scenery but will be a challenge because of the HILLS not just the ups but also the DOWNS !!!
Do you know yet if you are coming near Toronto and if yes have you planned where to stay ?

I was there in the middle of July for the Peace Garden Hamfest. I use to make it every year but with the cost of gasoline I have been making it every other year. Yes, I went through that huge climate controlled solarium building with all of the cactus. I'm also not sure what that is all about but they spent al lot of money on it and it is impressive. Since they moved the food service to that building and tore down the old small one, just about everybody stops at the Cactus solarium. There is WiFi there and also in the remote parking area for that building. They are pulling new fiber to the Camping area and we were told the entire camping are will be covered by next spring. There is also free WiFi now in the Music camp and Legion area.

The Peace Garden manager in our Hamfest meeting said the board is was talking about making some modifications to the large monument on the west end to allow people to go to the top of it. I can not remember it's height but the number 285 and 385 feet comes to mind. He said from the top you can see down the border in both directions for miles. You are in the Turtle mountain area there and I think that is just about the highest spot. I have driven into that place from all directions (North, South, East, and West) and I am always climbing higher in elevation to get there. I have also flown in to that airstrip there.

I hope they go there while they are in the area. They will enjoy the visit. There are no reservations required at that campground. Some sites (not all) have hook ups.

Note for pay phone users: All pay phones have Manitoba numbers no matter where they are located in the park. US West refused to service them any more so MTS took them over. US cell phones (at least Verizon) work there. I have heard Canadian ones also work, but since I do not have one I have never tried it.

Dwayne, I don't have a GMC Motorhome and my SOB is non functional. Dick's place is driveable from Toronto but I'm going to England Sept 13. I'd love to meet you guys depending when you are in Ontario and what your route is here. If you are going to be in the actual Toronto area and I'm still around, I wouldn't mind being a "guide".

Dwayne, a GMC motorhome is on my "wish" list. I've followed the forum for years and have applied things I've learned to my SOB and mine and others road vehicles. Reading the forum is like a daily "fix" for me.

I can either meet you guys at Dick Paterson's or when you get closer to Toronto. There is a KOA north of Toronto on the east side of Hwy 400. If you are looking.
