I dropped the front cap this weekend with the help of my buddies. Got the clearance lights hooked up and bolted down and was finally able to find out why my antenna seemed so poor. The antenna wire was about 2 inches short and was not connected.

While the cap was down we painted it, patched some cracks and added sheet aluminum to those places were rivets had been. The sun visors are harder to remove (and possibly install) than they have any right to be. The plastic was in better shape than I expected.

Now I have a radio and some very bright clearance lights.

Ha! Yes I have pictures but I want to clean them up a bit. I took more pictures of the top of the cap than I did of anything else. It’s all back together except for the sun visors.

Ok, I am thinking about doing the same when we do the new windows and headliner. I want to see your pictures.
Thanks,
Dan

Well my only hard earned sage advice is to pay attention to where the screws come out. I consciously decided that screw placement was so obvious that I needn't label them. This came back to bite me.

Also - don't trust the nut-serts. Test them. Lube them. Replace them if needed. Or in desperation use self tapping screws and a prayer!

My curtain rails were pretty floppy before but now are very solid.

Pictures are posted here, though I’ll never get the sort-order just right...

Were I to do it over again I’d wrap the headliner in foil insulation and instead of aluminum strips at the curtain rail I’d use a C-channel.

Still - it’s a darn site better than it was!

I figured out how to set the sort order. It’s so easy - it was right under my nose. Now I know to read a website when looking.

I’m a very poor example of a geek...

I took mine down (years ago now) all alone, but to put it back in place took three of us, and even then it was not easy. Have lots of good friends available, and ones who can work overhead. Not everyone can.
