Hello--I am wondering if anyoneone knows where I can purchase the lower arms for an A & E 5000 awning--We just purchased our GMC motorhome and the first time we used it we had a storm roll in and the lower arms are now destroyed. Any help would be appreciated--thanks--Mike 715-966-6649

Hi Jim, I have an 8500 according to plate. Any parts info or fabric replacement advice? I cant even figure out how to open it. Never had it open, fabric looks bad from roll. The latches on one side appear missing but something not visible is holding it up. Arms, legs etc. appear in good shape. A new one is not in the budget. I haven't been able to find much on the net.
Thanks! Pete

Pete,
Some of those awnings are released by extending the handle/lock and lifting
the arm straight up. That disengages the stowage latch so the top of the
arm can be tilted away from the coach. Then grab the pull strap tab, which
should be visible near the center of the awning roll, and pull the roll,
and arms, out. If the tab's not accessible, you'll need someone on each
arm to pull their tops away from the coach.
After the roll and arms are extended, you'll find "rafters" which stow
inside the arms; slide the free end of those up to the outer ends of the
arms. Then extend and lock those rafters to tension the fabric. Tie the
ends of the arms to secure anchor points if there's ANY chance of strong
winds. Raise the forward arm and lower the rear to ensure that rain can't
collect on the fabric -- a pool WILL collapse the arms.
Replacement fabric for any awning should be readily available from any RV
dealer, or Camping World & similar.

Google A&E Awnings - there is a lot of information, including a link to an operator's manual and several repair sites.

We can get you new or old parts for the A &E awning.
When we service GMC, we need to be able to get parts.
Call us and we will help.

Jim K.,
I didn't realize that Applied GMC carried A&E awning parts. I just assumed that everyone out here on the forum simply bought parts through an authorized Dometic dealer.
So, hopefully, it will be common knowledge on the forum. It would have been much more convenient to talk to someone who would understand what I am looking for rather than 'it's too old and there are no parts available' or ' we deal with hundreds of different RVs, your coach is on a GMC chassis but who built it.'
I heard this from the Dometic dealer and directly from Dometic.
what a pain!
thanks
larry
